The world had stopped turning for Sigyn. Was this really true? Was Loki really alive and prisoned? Had he really been right in front of her nose this whole time? She looked at Jane one more time, she didn't look like she was lying. Sigyn started to walk towards the sofa. She needed to sit down. This was all too much to process. She wanted to leave. She wanted to go and check the prisons. The prisons! That was why Frigga and Thor were stressed out when they heard the bells. Loki was their secret. Now, she really needed to check out the prisons, but she knew she couldn't just leave Jane alone. No matter what, she had made a promise. But she couldn't just sit here, either. Not when she knew the answer of her question was just a few walls away.
Jane had turned quite too. This was so much bigger then what she thought. She guessed the reason Sigyn kept talking about Loki in the past tense was something like Loki broke her heart or because she realised who Loki is and left him, when the truth was she thought he was dead. She couldn't believe how they, Frigga and Thor, could do something like that. Sigyn herself said she was close to the Royal Family. How can someone who knew secret passages of the castle could not know her best friend, the prince of Asgard, was alive? Guess the Asgardian rulers weren't much different than the human rulers when it came to secrets.
"The library!" shouted Sigyn suddenly as she stood up. "Since it's a royal library, maybe there could be a chance for me to find a recording of Loki's punishment or even better his trial! You wait for me here! I'll be back as soon as possible!"
"Sigyn, you do realise him being alive proves everything else I said about him, right?"
"I do, but I also know Loki. Or, more like knew." She took a deep sigh. "Let me explain the reason behind my words. When Loki and I were kids, we were inseparable and no one would be able to understand our relationship but the Allmother. For them, I was just the daughter of a peasant and Loki was the forgettable son of Odin. What they didn't understand was while I saw the parts of Loki that they never could, he saw mine.
For me, he was the most interesting person I've ever met. He was not like the others. Playing with swords, getting into fistfights, eating more than his body could handle, being arrogant about the smallest achievements was never him. He was humble, polite, respectful, hardworking, thoughtful and loyal. Believe me, when you live on a flying piece of land full of gods, finding all these traits in one person is not easy. Apart from all these he was also a mischievous rebel. My days with him were never boring. There would always be an adventure to jump in.
As years passed we became closer. One day, we had a whole day planned to spend together. We were going to go into the woods, climb the mountain and watch the sunset. We would do that once in every month. But, he took forever to show up. It was not like him. He hated waiting and with that making people wait. So, I started to walk towards the palace to make sure everything was okay. When I arrived, for some reason, the guards didn't let me in, so I was left with only one choice: Climbing to Loki's window.
There was a tree near Loki's window. By climbing on it, I managed to come close to his window. When I called for him, he looked surprised. It was like he was not expecting to see me. Or more like hoping. He looked uneasy, sad, and confused. His answer to me when I asked him what was wrong was "What are you doing here?". And when I said I came to check up on him since he didn't show up, he said he didn't show up because he had better things to do. He said since he was not a kid anymore, it was time for him to act like a true prince and stop engaging with meaningless acts like walking around the woods and hanging out with me. He said he believed it was time for us to separate our ways.
But while his mouth said all those words, it was easy to see the pain in his eyes. He didn't mean any of those and I knew it. When I told him that, he asked me to leave his room and, to my biggest regret, I did. It seemed like the best thing to do at that time. I thought, whatever it was that made him say all those, when it was over he'd find me and explain everything.
I'm afraid that day never came. I never saw him again, and as years passed I somehow forgot about him and everything he brought to my life; the fun, the joy, the happiness. Next thing I know, I found myself doing the one thing I hated the most, patching up the most arrogant and proud Asgardians while having to listen to them talk about how great they are. The saddest part was I only realised what I had lost when I heard the news of Loki's death.
Now, I'm asking you, if one day, out of the blue, you learned that maybe there's still chance of getting everything you lost back, would you not do it?"
"But, what if he changed? What if he's not the Loki you knew and loved, anymore. After all, people change."
"You're right people change, but no one can change that much. I told you killing for no reason was never him."
"Then how do you explain the attack of New York?"
"I don't know, but I'm ready to find the answer. That is, by asking him."
"You really care about and trust him that much? Even after he hurt you?"
"Don't get me wrong, I don't like the things I heard from you, nor him, but I can't just sit here and judge him like everybody else does. Especially, when I don't know his part of the story. I owe him at least that much loyalty. After all that is kinda who I am. The Goddess of Fidelity and Magic."
"Is there anything I can do to help?"
"You're sweet, but this is something I need to do on my own. You just stay here and be safe. I will come as soon as possible."
