"What do you know about Aether?", Frigga asked. That was an out of nowhere question, Sigyn thought, but she answered it anyway. "The Aether is a mysterious force that existed before the birth of the Nine Realms. It is known to be able to convert matter into dark matter, and otherwise maintains an almost lifelike existence that causes it to bond in a parasitic fashion to a living host. Once bonded, the energies of the Aether slowly consume any mortal host, and also have a volatile and deadly effect on any who come into contact with the host in a manner that the Aether perceives as threatening.
Bonded with a stronger host that understands its power, the Aether can be employed as a weapon where it lashes out with a concussive force or reaches out to convert matter.
Malekith sought to use the Aether's power to return the universe to one of darkness. But the Asgardians intervened and took the Aether from him by force. Bor then had it hidden away where none could find it, and over the following five millennia its story faded from known history." "That was rather good. You probably have more knowledge of Aether than my husband. I knew you'd be the right person for this." Sigyn blushed with the comment, yet she couldn't help but ask.
"But how can some knowledge about a long lost weapon help you with anything?"
"Patience my dear. I know you have a lot of questions on your head but I promise you, you'll find your answers soon. This way"
After the last turn, they finally arrived at a castle balcony that Prince Thor was in with a brunette woman. You didn't know what they were talking about, but you heard the prince saying "My father doesn't know everything". Whatever Odin had said, it seemed like his son didn't believe in. It was quite surprising since Thor was known as the obedient son.
"Don't let your father hear that", Frigga said, jokingly. "I brought you someone who I know will be the most helpful. Thor, Jane this is Sigyn, our best healer and my favourite student. Sigyn I can assume you already know my son, Thor. With him is his friend from Midgard, Jane."
"Midgard? This is rather incredible. You must be the first-ever Midgardian to come to Asgard. Mostly because our people always found themselves better than everyone else. We have quite bit of a pride problem."
"Yes, I saw that from Thor. In the first days of his banishment, he wouldn't shut up about how great and mighty he was."
"I did not.", said Thor, but the hesitation in his voice proved otherwise.
"I know the feeling. I have to deal with guys like him on a daily basis. All they do is to tell me how many people they killed and how long they fought no matter how injured they were. It's a miracle I didn't resign from my job yet."
"I'm telling you, I wasn't bragging that much."
"With all due respect your highness, you are not fooling anyone. You're an Asgardian. It's in your blood."
That's what she loved about Loki, Sigyn remembered. He wasn't like the others. He wasn't into muscles and brawns. He liked books and magic. He had a hunger for knowledge. He didn't care about the glory of the war and the fame that comes with it. He just needed love from those who are close to him.
Of course, that was years ago. Who knew if he didn't change after all that time? But since Sigyn was not able to make any new memories anymore, it didn't matter if Loki changed or not. In her mind, he was always going to stay as his best friend who was not like any other in the most enchanting way.
It was a tragedy that they got separated in the end, and this trip to the palace made things worse. She was remembering the memories she had forgotten through the years, and she wasn't sure if she liked it or not.
"So, what brought you to Asgard?", Sigyn asked to Jane. If a Midgardian was here, in the palace, there had to be a big reason behind it. There was no way someone like Odin would let her walk around just so she can go sightseeing.
"Why don't you shake her hand first? It is a gesture of welcomeness, after all, and she's our guest.", Frigga said. It was a strange suggestion, but there was always a reason behind Frigga's words, so Sigyn obeyed.
It was when she felt it. Something dark and powerful running through Jane's body. So powerful that Sigyn had never felt anything like this before. She let go of Jane's hand immediately and tried to understand what just happened. Sigyn knew Midgardians used magic and science, simply another branch of magic, but something this powerful, she was sure, no Midgardian could handle.
"I thought you said she was a Midgardian.", she said, at last, turning back to the Queen, eager for an explanation.
