Everything happens for a reason, right?
At least that's what people like to think, but it sure has a funny way of all falling into place, some more than others, that's what this story is about: how one girl's life played out like one of those weird rom-com movies you can binge-watch on a rainy day.
Alyssa's life was boring until she met Nate, and how things turned out was not was she had planned but she wouldn't have it any other way.
Let's start at the beginning:
Alyssa had her life planned out... she'd pass her exams, pass her degree in university with flying colours, get her dream job of being a radio presenter on the biggest radio station in the UK, meet Mr Right and get married then settle down and maybe have a family.
That changed almost instantly when she met Nate Evans.
It was a late September evening, Alyssa looked out the studio window, she was halfway through her show on the local hospital and community radio, she loved her show and adored working on the radio, she'd had a few requests from a couple of patients in the hospital adjacent to the studio, she sighed, everything was boring her recently, she just wanted some excitement, she glanced at the clock, 8:56 pm, her show was drawing to a close, the song that was currently broadcasting was just about to finish playing she turned her attention back to the desk, threw her headphones back on and pushed the presenter mic fader up, the red ON AIR sign above the clock in front of her flickered on signalling that she was live on air "Wheetus and Teenage Dirtbag there, playing on your local community and hospital radio station 98.3 - AB Radio! It's nearly the end of the show but don't worry I'll be back same time next week, so don't adjust the dial because more great music on the way, starting with this one: It's the One Direction before One Direction: It's The Wanted and Glad You Came!" and with that, she hit the play button for the queued song and slid the presenter mic back down and began to pack up.
"Hey Alyssa!" the station's manager and chairlady Tracy stuck her head around the door, she was an elderly lady, she had white hair and thick-rimmed glasses "Hey Trace" Alyssa smiled "Great show hun, you did really well. Fancy popping into my office for a cuppa? that's if you're not in a rush?" Tracy smiled "I've got to wait for technical support with the playout system as it's been playing up in the last few days to come and sort it out." "Sure, I'm in no rush to go anywhere I'm not in college until Friday anyway so I'll wait with you" Alyssa grinned "Oh would you, my lovely? That would be fantastic!" Tracy clapped her hands together "I'll let you pack up while I get the kettle boiling" and with that, she left the room.
A few minutes later the front door alarm chimed, signalling that someone had entered the premises, there was no sign of movement following the chime, Alyssa shrugged it off as the alarm was also playing up recently, the studio was due to be upgraded massively as the desk itself was from the '70s and the computers that looked like they were from the Stone Age. Alyssa finished putting her headphones into her messenger bag along with her Mac book and proceeded to walk out of the studio and towards the office with her head hung until she collided with something hard, after recomposing herself she looked to see what she bumped into; it was a young man, who was just stood there looking at her with a very confused look on his face.
"Oh I'm so sorry, I should look where I'm going." she began to apologise "No worries, everyone does it, nice to meet you I'm Nathan, but everyone calls me Nate." the man replied holding his hand out as an invitation to shake it. "I'm Alyssa but everyone calls me Lyss" Alyssa replied and begun to shake his hand, taking in his features as she did he was around 3 or 4 inches taller than her, he had a bit of muscle in his arms which both of them where covered in tattoos, he had short almost buzz-cut like light brown hair and pure bright blue eyes. As soon as they both made eye contact Alyssa felt a tingle shoot down her spine just like an electric current, there was something about Nate that caught her off guard.
"Alyssa, what?" he asked "H-Huh?" Alyssa shook herself out of her thoughts "Your last name, what is it?" he answered inquisitively "O-Oh.. umm it's Jones, Alyssa Jones" she sputtered "Alyssa Jones..." he scratched his head "Sounds familiar, do you know Louise Moore?" he inquired his eyes deepening in a blue sapphire colour "Louise? Oh, she's my best friend" Alyssa replied confused as to why he knew Louise. "I thought I knew you from somewhere, I'm her cousin through marriage." Nate smirked, "Oh I remember you now!" Alyssa exclaimed, "You were the DJ for Louise's mother's wedding a few years ago!" "Yep, that's me... I remember you and Louise getting so-called 'drunk' at the wedding and dancing on the dance floor all through the night." his smirk deepened, Alyssa turned bright red "Oh my god... I'm so sorry, I was 12 and thought that I was drunk on Alcohol that had practically no volume..." "Don't worry, you made my job easy, it looks like you two were enjoying the music and dancing, kept me entertained all night" he laughed at Alyssa who by this point was as bright red as a tomato.
"Oh, you've met Nate, Alyssa, he's like the son I never had." came a voice; it was Tracy "Nate this is Alyssa, Alyssa this is Nate." Tracy began to introduce them to one another before Nate put his hand up to quieten Tracy "Oh we've met before..." he smirked again his eyes began to glisten as if he was up to something, Alyssa had the sensation roll down her spine once more and the only way to describe the sensation was that it was just like electricity.
