Chapter 48 : The Dark Knight

Start from the beginning

- No, of course not...

- Her parents are assholes, it doesn't mean she has to pay for that!

- You don't have to pay for that too! It's her life, her problem, not ours!

- And THIS kind of attitude is the real problem! She has no one to guide her! To tell her what's wrong and what's right! She had no example in her life! Imagine being at her place! Have some compassion Will! I didn't raise you like that! replied Joyce with a disappointed tone.

Will crossed his arms. The only reason forcing him to stay was that he was living far, or he would already be far now! Jane here, Jane there, it was just for Jane! It wasn't his fault if she had a shitty family! He didn't know why he had to live all of that whereas he didn't even like her! It was so annoying.

They waited two hours before seeing a doctor. He told them that Jane was out of danger, relieving Joyce, but that she almost didn't survive it, they had to intubate her while the medicine was effective on her throat and lungs.

Joyce went alone in the room, knowing that Will didn't really want to be here. When she entered the room, Jane was laying down on the bed, her eyes closed, her hands tied on the bed, and a mask on her face to help her to breath, while the Chief was sat on a chair, in front of the bed. She felt her heart breaking, she couldn't stop seeing her own son at her place, it could have been him if he had finished with his father. She sat next to the bed and placed her hand on the young girl's forehead, lightly rubbing with her thumb.

- You're going to send her again with her aunt? asked calmly Joyce.

- No, answered Hopper.

- So what? Back in jail?

- I don't know...

- She needs to wean herself off drugs and alcohol, she almost died.

- I know.

- I have a room, said the mother.

- What? frowned the Chief.

- I have a room, I could take her with me and...help her to stop.

- You would?

- If it can save her and avoid her jail, yes, I would. It's going to be hard, but necessary.

- Ok.

- Ok? You agree?

- I see no problems with this. You're a responsible adult, you care about her, you are a nurse, we both now that no rehabs will accept her, so...yeah, it sounds good.

The two adults both nodded, knowing it was the best solution. Joyce turned to Jane and noticed that the girl was lightly moving. The woman stood and Jane slowly opened her eyes, looking everywhere.

- You're at the hospital Jane, said Joyce with a soft tone. You overdosed.

- I'm tired...sighed Jane.

- Take some rest, we are not leaving, smiled the mother.

She was expecting to see Jane closing her eyes but the girl tried to straighten on her elbows, but her hands were still tied up. She frowned and tried to detach them by brutally pulling them.

- Stop that! intervened Joyce grabbing her wrists. It's ok, it's ok, relax, you're fine!

- Let me go! LET ME GO!

Hopper stood and quickly approached the bed, trying to calm the young girl by blocking her body against the bed.

- Take a breath Jane, it's ok, it's just by precaution, told calmly Hopper.
