5 more minutes. 5 more minutes. Evelynn just wanted to go home. She was counting down in her head to when she could get away from the torture of him being right next to her. The clock ticked again. 4 minutes left...don't do it. Don't do it. Too late, she was already looking over there. There was David laughing with friends. What happened to us? What went wrong? Shit. He looked straight at her. Whipping back around Evelynn lowered her head. The clocked ticked. Like a magnet, Evelynn turned around again. This time they just stared at each other, neither one breaking the eye contact. Something flashed across David's face. Pity? Regret? It didn't matter; Evelynn couldn't take it anymore and looked away.

The clock ticked. 2 minutes. Do not cry. She heard a chair pull out behind her, but she forced herself to face forward. It had been an extremely long day and she just wanted to go home. The clock ticked. More chairs started moving. Evelynn dropped her head and just sat there. A huge weight settled in her chest. She didn't move to pick up her books; she just sat. Almost everyone was in the front of the class now. The bell rang.

One by one Evelynn watched people leave the classroom. Laughing, smiling, being happy. All things she hadn't done in months. Move. This is what you've been waiting for. The bell rang you can go home. But Evelynn just sat there. The clock ticked, pulling her from her trance, and she slowly packed her bag. Sighing while heaving her bag onto her shoulders, drained from the day, Evelynn began to stand. As she turned to walk, Evelynn hit someone before she could look up. What the hell? Mumbling to herself about how the day couldn't get worse she looked up. David. Simultaneously her heart stopped beating and began to race. David reached out to her, but she couldn't understand why until she was jogging away. "Evie, wait." David croaked. Shit. Go faster. Not today. David was still pleading for her to listen. Evelynn stumbled down the hall, straight outside.

Pausing, Evelynn wiped the water from her face. Why am I even crying? Looking up Evelynn saw that it was also raining. Perfect. I hate the rain. She started to walk out of the parking lot, glancing back to see who was around. Noticing David looking around she ducked her head and walked a littler faster, not paying attention while the rain continued to seep into her clothes. Evelynn didn't actually hate the rain, she loved it. She just hated what it reminded her of. David. They met when it was raining; they loved the rain. Alone the rain was just dreary and sad. Alone Evelynn was dreary and sad.

~ "What are you doing Evie? You're going to catch a cold." He laughed at her as she danced around. "David come on, it's just a little water. Dance with me!" Evie spun in circles jumping up and down with her arms thrown out like a bird. "Damn it." David mumbled. He could never resist Evie, not when she made him so happy. Suddenly Evie was no longer jumping and spinning, but she was dancing. Truly dancing in David's arms. He mumbled a song she was too blissfully happy to recognize, and they stayed that way until they were soaked from the rain and drunk off of each other. ~

A horn blared. Smack. Evelynn Screamed. Silence.

~ "David?" Evie called through her empty house. Weird... he said he would be here. Her parents were out of town and it was date night. Evie kept walking until she felt her phone buzz. It was David. "Hey! Where are you? Are you running late?" Silence. "Evelynn I'm not coming." Confused Evie responded, "Oh. Did something come up?" More Silence. "No Evelynn; I can't do this anymore." This time it was David met with silence. Evelynn couldn't speak. She just stood there with the tears pouring down her face and her mouth open. No words or sounds came out. The phone clicked. Evelynn sunk to the ground. He hung up.~

A police siren? A car alarm? Chaos. Evelynn groaned.

Feeling someone holding her, Evelynn's eyelids fluttered. "Evie wake up, please Evie open your eyes."

Evelynn was confused, nobody called her Evie not since....

Evelynn opened her eyes, but all that was there were white walls and machines.

The heartrate monitors beeped. Evelynn cried. The door opened. Softly, Evie gasped.
