A Nuclear Family (Steven Universe x Undertale fanfic)

1. A Regal Return

I stood, watching in horror as the flower ripped Steven's gem out and rejuvenated his gem half, causing a pink Steven to retreat back into the form of a gemstone.

What bothered me the most is that I wasn't doing anything about it. I couldn't do anything about it, but just standing there and watching makes me feel worse than not doing anything.

Then something flashed in my eyes, and I found myself in Steven's place. 

And the flower wasn't a flower anymore.

Actually, I don't know what it was. Some big mech monster with vines preparing to stab through my chest and shatter me.

The last thing I got to see in the weird flash was Pearl, thrashing and crying, being held back by Garnet, who had her visor off and was crying, with Steven helping her with sad, scared eyes.

Then I flashed back and was standing next to Pearl, who was trembling.

What just happened to me? Where was I? It didn't look like the temple... also, why did I see that? 

...did the flower trigger that weird flash?

Trying not to focus on that, I gripped Pearl's hand in my own and squeezed it tightly. She was scared and didn't know what to do, so she needed me.

That's one of the things a girlfriend does, right?

I felt her softly squeeze back, her hand trembling a little bit less. 

She looked down at me and gave me a weak smile that faded as soon as it came as she looked back up, squeezing my hand tighter.

The flower cackled at us. "Have fun... you're gonna need some luck," it sneered, digging back into the ground.

As soon as it was gone, Connie scrambled to help Steven, who was on the ground moaning in pain.

"S-Steven, are you okay!?" Connie said, panicked. He lifted his head up and stared at his gem.

"mmmmmff... what just happened..." he moaned. "That weird flower thing pulled out your gem and... rejuvenated your gem half," she said quietly.

His eyes widened. "But- doesn't that mean- she's coming back?"

She winced. "Probably... but we'll figure it out! We have to..." She was trying so hard to reassure him, poor kid. 

Pearl and Garnet were extremely quiet, and then I realized why.

Pink Diamond- Rose- was coming back.

And if I wasn't careful enough, she might take Pearl's heart away from me.

Pink Diamond's gem lifted off the ground and began to take form.
