Prologue

"Fujioka Chio, please step into the light." A disembodied voice called for me. A slight shiver was felt running down my spine after hearing my name. This really was happening, wasn't it?

All I can see is black except for a small spotlight that illuminates what seems to be a stage. I can hear the breathing of other frightened students beside me. "It is my duty to protect them." I thought to myself to build the confidence I needed.

I took the first step. My mind flooded with memories to drown out my anxieties.

"My family, they're out there watching me."

The second step.

"My future depends on this. I must speak clearly and precisely."

The third step. To my surprise, I'm already in the light.

"Please introduce yourself." The voice calls out. I can see the faint outline of three people in front of me at what seemed to be a table. They seemed to be taking notes. "No, they were definitely taking notes." A classroom setting is all I know. The familiar scrape of a pencil, the squeak of an eraser rubbing against a mistake. It was all too familiar to misplace.

"Fujioka Chio, The Ultimate Teacher." I respond. I could feel the weight of my answer crush down on me. "Was I wrong? I can't be wrong... it's my name."

"Thank you, Fujioka Chio. Please take an immediate left and you will be escorted back into Hope's Peak.

I complied, taking the left. I see two outlines of men waiting for me.

"Saiki Naoya." I heard the voice call out. The name tugged at my heartstrings. "Please step into the light." I quickly turned around to watch the boy step into the spotlight. "I need to see him... One more time." Before I could, however. I felt a tugging at my arms. The men waiting for me had grabbed me and began pulling me away.

"Come on." One said harshly. "We're taking you to Hope's Peak now."

My body went completely limp as I was dragged away from the stage. I had just enough time left to see just a glimpse of him before the men dragged me through a door.
