"This must be a mistake." I said to the office girl, unbelieving.
"It is," she replied, looking sympathetic." We're sorry, but the girls' rooms have all been filled. Unless you board in the boys' room, you won't be able to attend this school."
"But- but-" the words couldn't form in my mouth.
"But you're lucky," she said." We have coed dorm buildings, where boys and girls can live in the same hall but not in the same room. There are female facilities provided, so it won't be much different. You will just be sleeping in the same room with the opposite gender, and if anything happens, you just come back right here with a complaint."
I wanted to cry. A dorm with boys that would probably smell like deodorant and old socks and sweat? Where they would keep me from sleeping in the night with their yapping and the music from their video games? Where I couldn't even change in my own room without boys gawking at my lady parts?
"It won't be bad, honey. Come on, follow me." She handed me a map of the school, which was named Greenwood Academy,a rule book and a copy of my schedule and motioned for me to follow her.
It was a Sunday afternoon and no one was out on the halls. The office girl lead me through a series of halls and stairs and more halls, until we reached a room with a bronze label 563 above the door.
"Here you go. Six persons to a room, so you will be boarding with 5 boys. Enjoy the rest of your day." Then she walked away, leaving me alone with my suitcase in front of a door where boys were behind it. I could hear hip hop music blaring through the door.
Calm down, Nica. It's just a room with boys. If you scream at them enough they won't bother you.
I tried to convince myself with my own thoughts but failed miserably. I kept thinking, It's boys. BOYS. The opposite goddamn gender.
But I guess when life gives you a dorm with boys, you suck it up and take it.
I smoothed down my shirt and nervously lifted my hand up to the door and knocked.
With surprising speed the door flung open with a squeak." I didn't expect you till five, Tyler-" he stopped when he saw me. He looked down at me, literally, because I was only 5'3" and which caused his blue tinted black hair to fall over his coal black eyes." Wait what? Who the hell are you?"
"Nice too meet you too. I'm Nica." I said rolling my eyes. I was already being informed that I was about to live with an asshole. I hoped the other 4 boys weren't as bad. " I hope you have been informed that you are about to live with me for the rest of the year."
His mouth flew open." Huh."
"Out of the way, Marco. That's no way to speak to a young lady." Another boy with the same features as the rude one except with red-tinted black hair came pushing him aside. " Hey, I heard you were going to live with us. And sorry about my twin brother, he's a douche. I'm Marcus Lucian." He smiled, flashing a row of brilliantly white teeth.
I found myself smiling back.
"Here, let me take your bag." He picked up my bag and turned away. His twin had disappeared. I followed him in, closing the door behind me.
Suddenly, I was engulfed in a hug and lifted up into the air. "NICA!" The person shouted, spinning me around and around.
When I saw who it was I burst into tears."Hunter!" I sobbed, flinging my arms around my childhood best friend's neck.
