She awoke to scratching at the door and a pounding headache. Her neck and back were stiff from sleeping on the bathroom floor. She flinched as memories of that moring came back to her. Pushing them away, she stood, stretching her arms up. She wasn't as nauseous as she thought she'd be but then she remembered the aspirin Karlie had given her.

The rest of the day was spent cleaning up the mess she made. Meredith gave her the side-eye all day while Olivia cautiously followed her every move.

Taylor was too upset to apologize and instead retreated back to her room for more sleep. She didn't dare check her phone. She feared that somehow her home was bugged and what she did would be on the news or that Karlie had called her to break up their friendship.

She'd known for a while.

At first it had confused her, the way she felt for Karlie was too intense to just be friends and for months she had kept it to herself. Of course, Karlie also had a boyfriend and Taylor could just slap herself for being that girl. She hoped for months that Karlie would leave Joshua and somehow realize that she loved Taylor and then they'd finally be together. These were all just fantazies of course but every night, Taylor lay in bed wishing that she could be tangled with the beautiful model. They shared a bed once of course, during a sleep over and too many bottles of wine. But that had all been before Taylor realized that she was in love with Karlie.

"Oh what have you done Swift."

They hadn't spoken for a week.

It was the longest time since they first met that they hadn't called, texted, or skyped.

Taylor was thankful for her now busy schedule and her fans always provided a steady distractions when she was close to picking up the phone.

Today was another busy day with tv tapings and performences. A line of fans awaited her outside alongside plenty of paparazzi. She ignored their questions and smiled to the fans who called for her. She wished she could stop and greet them but she was worried that with traffic, she'd be late. When it came to schedules she always made sure to be on time.

"Any word?" Her mom asked from beside her.

She shook her head and looked down to the blank screen of her iPhone.

"Don't worry sweetie, I'm sure she'll call soon.. Why don't you..."

"I wouldn't even know what to say." Her eyes began to water and was quickly handed a tissue. "Thanks."

She rested her head on her mothers shoulder, wishing things could go back to when times were easy and the world smaller.

It was Karlie, in the end who called her.

She stiffly asked if Taylor could join her for dinner that evening at her place, Taylor quickly agreed and the rest of the day was spent in nervous jitters. She wished she could speak to someone about what to do but she was too ashamed to ask for help plus she hadn't gotten around to telling anyone beside her mom about her recent appreciation for the female body. After a quick taping for mtv, she rushed home for a quick shower. She chose to wear something simple and casual. A mustered cardigan over a maroon plaid dress and black leggings.

She was a shaking mess as she approached Karlie's door. She knocked twice and contemplated the distance between her and the stairs as she waited for Karlie to open the door.

Karlie opened the door and silently lead her in. They silently made there way to the kitchen where two plates of food were waiting. Taylor sat down gently and fidgeted as she watched her best friend sit across from her.

They both let out nervous chuckles as they met eyes.

Taylor braced herself for the rejection that was to come.

"Taylor-"

"Karlie-"

They both let out a awkward chuckle.

"You go first." Karlie offered.

"Oh, um okay. I- I'm so completely sorry for making things awkward. I know I might be making thugs worse but I have a confession to make and I can't leave here until I let it out." Sometime between the awkward glance and chuckles, Taylor decided to confess.

Karlie nodded for her to continue, sipping from her glass of wine.

"Karlie, you're my best friend." She smiled at her genuinely. "You're my best friend. That's why for months I've kept this a secret. I didn't want to ruin what we had but then I was on the phone with Ed and we were talking about Athina and I realized, the way he talked about her, is exactly the way I talk about you. I tried to deny it for as long as I could but that night before I ruined everything, I got a call from Scott. They want me to start dating again and I can't picture anyone by my side but you. I love you Karlie. I love you so much that it hurts. And it's worse knowing that you don't feel the same and this is probably the last time you want to talk to me but I just had to get this off my chest. I can't live anymore with this secret." She looked away, awaiting the rejection. "It's okay if you don't feel the same. But please don't push me away. You're my best friend and that matters more to me. Losing you would kill me."

The room was silent as Karlie processed her words. A faint tick of a clock nearby and the busy New York streets below were the only sounds heard.

"Taylor, I, I love you..."

"But not like that." Taylor lowered her head in defeat.

"You're an amazing girl and anyone would be lucky to have you, but I have Joshua and I don't know if I can love you like that. I'm sorry." Karlie tried desperately to meet her eyes but Taylor turned her head to stare out the dark window. Her own reflection stared back at her and she was forced to see what she had become.

"You don't have to apologize. I made a mess of things."

"You're still my best friend Taylor."

Taylor gave her a tiny smile, "I can be just friends." She lied.
