Someone once said, "Humans aren't afraid of the dark, they are afraid of what lives in it." And they were right. Since the beginning of humanity, humans have created everything so that they can feel safer. The most ancient people, lived in constant fear of what lived in the darkness. So they prayed to gods or deities to protect them. These deities, these gods, are real. Every civilization saw these beings create and destroy everything they knew. And some civilizations have hundreds of these "gods" when in reality, there was only six. Modern humans don't understand what fear is. They blow these gods off as myths but each of the six created the world that we know today, earth, giving us the ground we walk on. Water, allowing plants and animals to grow and survive. Air, giving us something to breathe. And fire, giving us heat. Each of the elements was controlled by one being, each of these beings called Ancients came from one thing; the void. Void is the most powerful of the Ancients, everything came from it, so everything can be destroyed by it. And it almost was. All the Ancients, including one known as the Lost Ancient, with their combined abilities were barely able to stop the him. They forced his power into a human so that the void can never again become so strong as to destroy them. More Ancients were born from the originals, these were known as the Second Generation. The Ancients felt that chaos was coming so they put the Second Generations and themselves into the host humans in hope to stop it. Over the millennia, the abilities from these Ancients and Second Generation has been passed through the bloodline of the Originals, the first people to wield the power. The Originals descendants wield the same power they did. The people who have wielded these powers have created peace but also caused destruction. The Ancient's descendants have become exactly what they had fought to destroy. The Ancients are now forgotten, to all except a few.

My parents named me Beliel because it means worthless. That's what I was to them, they took one look at me and gave me away. All I have from them is a scar across my cheek and a ring made of Onyx on a silver chain. When I was four I was adopted by the Stone family. They had a boy my age and we grew up together, as close to brothers as you can get, and a daughter two years older. The boy's name was Arion. He was always a big kid, but now, at almost fourteen, he is huge. Six foot of muscle, he is stoic and determined. When he has a goal, he will do whatever he can to achieve it. Alexis, their daughter is the same way. She is small though, five foot five but she is fierce. And then there's me. I'm not as strong willed as them but when it comes to defending them, even though they don't need it, I'm always there. I have thought of the Stone's as my family since I can remember.
"Bel! Did you hear me?"Alexis asks.
I jolt out of my sleep, and look around confused for a second, "What?" I said. I realized I was still in the car, watching the trees fly past.
"We are almost the new school, get your stuff together," she says, "And fix your hair, you look ridiculous."
"Ok Mom," Arion says taunting her.
She punches him in the arm, "Shut up," she replied laughing.
"Why did we have to move right in the middle of the year anyway? We always wait until at least the end of the year," Arion asked.
"Your mother and I thought this charter school would be better suited for you and Beliel. Alexis has been going for a semester and she really likes it," Dad said.
I sit up and fix my hair. My earbuds had fallen out because of the bumpy, dirt road and were laying on the floor of the car. I bend over to pick them up and my ring comes out of my shirt. I keep in on the chain it was on when I first had it, wearing it around my neck. I've never understood why I keep it but for some reason it feels important.
I grab my earbuds and sit back only to get hit in the face Arion's elbow because Alexis pushed him into me. He doesn't say anything but continues to fight with her. I put my earbuds back in and I look out the window at the forest again and for a second I swear I saw the outline of a man, standing and watching the car.
"Arion, calm down!" I say laughing after getting pushed into the car door again.
We turn onto another road and came into a clearing. The school was in the center of it. It's huge! A whole campus with what look like dorms on on side and classrooms on the other. There was a big main building in the center of all the buildings. We pulled up to the front gate and we all got out.
A boy who looked about my age walked up to us, smiling.
"Hey Alexis!" He says, "I take it these are your brothers?"
"No, they are some random kids I found on the side of the road." Alexis replied sarcastically, rolling her eyes.
"Hey! I'm Teddy!" He says, way too enthusiastic for eight in the morning. "Grab your stuff, we have a long day ahead of us!"
I grab my phone and my laptop and start to follow Teddy through the main gate. I turn and wave bye to Mom and Dad and walk with Arion and Alex through, into the courtyard.
