I woke up with an odd sensation in the air. The sun blazed through my curtains while birds outside sang their morning song. It felt like any other day, but I was finally free—six weeks of summer holiday stretched ahead after finishing primary school. I couldn't stand school or the people there, who never hesitated to call me weird.

Beautiful weather in Britain is rare, but today the sun shone bright. I sat up in my single bed, tangled in crumpled purple sheets. Glancing at the alarm clock on my bedside table—08:43—I yawned and stretched before climbing out of bed.

My room was small but cozy. Posters of bands and cute puppies covered the walls, reflecting my love for animals, who never judged me like people did. The room was mostly white and plain, except for a purple lamp and matching bedding—choices made by my parents.

I looked at myself in the mirror on my wardrobe door and groaned at my pale skin and messy long dark hair. My complexion always reminded me of my adoption, since my parents were both mixed race. We never discussed it, but they knew that I knew. I never brought it up because I didn't want them to feel like I loved them any less; they were the only parents I'd ever known.

"Katherine, are you getting up today?!" my father, Frank Nocks, shouted up the stairs. I grabbed my dressing gown and wandered out of my bedroom, slowly making my way down. They usually let me sleep in during the holidays. What could they want?

Both my parents stood in our small living room, exchanging cautious glances. It seemed like they were debating their next move. My mother, Mel Nocks, turned towards the window, avoiding eye contact, while my father sat down on our leather couch. I joined him, feeling a knot of nerves forming in my stomach. Had something bad happened? Had someone died?

"Katherine, we need to... we need to talk to you about something. You received a letter today..." my father said, looking down at the envelope in his hand. I didn't understand what was going on. "Katherine, we've been keeping a secret from you. It's... it's about your parents and who they were... or what they were, I should say..." His face twisted with an emotion I could only describe as disgust. My mother remained silent and still. My hands began to shake, and my heart raced. Were they really that bad?

"They... they were wizards," my father said. My heart dropped. Wizards? This had to be a joke. Wizards don't exist.

"Katherine, this is a letter inviting you to a school. A wizard school. You need to pack because you'll be staying with a wizard family for the summer. They'll help you get everything you need and make sure you arrive safely. A man will be here to collect you in a couple of hours. Now, please go to your room and get your things."

My father stood up, handed me the letter, and turned away, placing his arm around my mother's shoulder, giving it a comforting squeeze. Tears threatened to spill from my eyes as my mouth hung open. So many thoughts swirled in my head. My parents were wizards? I was a wizard? Why wouldn't they look at me?

"Dad... Mum, I want to stay here! Please don't make me go!" My dad turned around and snapped, "KATHERINE, GO TO YOUR ROOM AND PACK!" Tears now stained my cheeks as I whispered, "Why don't you want me here?"

I saw the hurt in my father's eyes as he replied, "We never wanted a wizard. We should never have agreed to take you in. We thought if we raised you right, you wouldn't end up like them. But we were wrong."

My heart shattered as his cold words sank in. How could they not want me just because I was a wizard? I fled the room and ran upstairs, shoving my few belongings into a bag as tears streamed down my cheeks. I couldn't breathe. What was I supposed to do?

A couple of hours later, a large man with a wild beard and hair arrived to collect me. He introduced himself as Hagrid and said I would be staying with a family called the Weasleys. I glanced back at the window where my parents stood. Their faces were emotionless—no smiles, no waves goodbye. Would I ever see them again? I had never felt so alone in my life.

Writers Note: I will be writing the first 3 years in a few chapters just for a bit of background so you get to know the character and her life. Then I will be starting it properly in year 4 as that's where all the drama will start!

This book is currently under editing and reloading all chapters! Please go read my other new book "Forbidden" if you love George Weasley!
