Joyce felt sympathy for them. They spent a long time in jail, for kids it was a long time even if some stayed longer, and now they didn't know how to deal with this new life, and nobody was helping them. They seemed lost, but not dangerous. She finished with the blood and asked the girl to take off her shirt, and, by surprise, she didn't complain.
- Ouh, hot, joked Melissa.
- Yeah, I know, smirked Jane.
Joyce told her to sit and when she did, the mother noticed some scars on her, but especially a burnt scar at the bottom of her back.
- Does it hurt? asked Joyce.
Jane frowned and turned to see what she was talking about.
- Uh...no.
- What happened?
- Nothing, answered too quickly Jane.
The nurse understood she didn't want to talk about this, you didn't get burnt for nothing. She took the syringe with the vaccine and noted the worried eyes of the young girl.
- It's a medicine, it's to help your body to fight against diseases, explained the mother.
She approached and was going to inject the liquid when Jane had a startle and put back her shoulder.
- It won't hurt, you will just feel a pressure.
She tried again but Jane put back again her shoulder.
- How I can be sure you is not trying to drug me to send me back in jail!? snapped Jane.
- Why would I do that? asked softly Joyce.
- Because it's what everyone want! told angrily the young girl.
- You don't think there is easier way to send you back in jail than this? Like, calling the cops, it wouldn't be hard, we just have to tell them it was a bad idea, you are all dangerous and bullying everyone, do you really think they wouldn't believe us?
Jane stared a moment at her with cold eyes. She was thinking of it and maybe she was right, it was a bit complicated to send someone in jail. She slowly leaned again near her, without stop watching the syringe, to be sure it was not dangerous.
- See, it wasn't bad, right? asked Joyce, putting the syringe away and cleaning the arm.
- Maybe.
Joyce had a soft chuckle. Jane was a tough girl, she was hard to understand but she had been correct all the time, which wasn't surprising, in her file it said she could be really cooperative, when she wanted. Joyce made a quick physical examination before giving the girl a croissant.
- Why? frowned Jane.
- For the breakfast, told Joyce.
- We can have breakfast!? asked Melissa, leaning forward on her chair and looking with envy at the meal.
- Yes, it's necessary in the morning, but for the blood test we need you to stay with an empty stomach.
Melissa and Jane looked at each other like if they learned something. They hadn't fed them in jail? She hoped not, it wasn't sane for their health. Once Melissa's turn over, the two girls left the infirmary.
It was the last period, and the party had music class. It was in the basement, at the end of the corridor. They liked this class because they weren't a lot, and Ms. Jenkins was really nice with everyone, it was always fun to go in her class. When you entered the room, there had four rows of five desks, the teacher's desk in front of them, and the instruments at the back of the room in the left. They sat as usual, Max on the left at the first row, Bev at her right and then Will. Behind were the three other boys. Everyone was there, and they all wondered why the class wasn't beginning.
