"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, my name is Reine Garcia. I am your Central Student Council President." I introduced myself in front of the students.
I silently shook my head at how they wore their uniforms. Some were not properly tucked and they were wearing colored t-shirts instead of white. The girls' hair was different colors and the boys plus different hairstyles. They are every inch of a picture of delinquent students.
"I will be imposing policies and regulations on behalf of the school administration. Anyone who violates will be punished accordingly. If you have questions, you may ask." I continued calmly.
Dapat hindi ako magpapadala sa kanila. I am here with a mission, and I am expected to complete it by the end of my term.
Then someone asked without raising a hand to be acknowledged. It's a different level from what I am used to. Dapat masanay na ako.
"Tanong ko lang, paano ka naging President?"
Followed by a few connected questions.
"Oo nga! Ni hindi ka nga namin kilala."
"Sigurado ka bang tama yung sinabi mo?"
"Taga dito ka ba?"
"Anong section mo?"
The best question so far.
"That's a good question." Nakangiting humarap ako sa kanya. "I am appointed by the School Director."
"Appointed? Ano yun?"
"Pinili yun, tanga. Ibig sabihin hindi na kailangan ng election."
"Ganoon ba yun?"
"Yes, I am appointed by the school director. I am not chosen by the students."
"Ah." Tumatango-tanong sabi ng ilan. "Puwede pala yun?"
"Transfer student ka ba?" Tanong naman nung isa.
"I can't say I am, but I assure you that I am here to help." Sagot ko naman.
"Help? Mukha bang naghihirap tayo?"
This is a low-class private school. Lowest of all, I might say and her question was surprisingly interesting. The school was trying to quench money from dirty deeds to survive.
"Exactly why I am here, to revive your student council committee." I give them a cold sweet smile.
Natigilan silang lahat dun at di makakibo. "So, if you don't have questions, we can all go back to our respective classrooms. Ingat."
