"They've been ten bodies found dead in their homes for the past week." Lieutenant Cavanaugh said with his husky voice as he savagely bites into his Jelly Donut.
"Who found the bodies ?" asked the teenage detective, Tonya Flowers, slowly pacing as she turned to face him.
Tonya is an even-tempered girl who has cocoa-colored hair with blonde natural highlights that almost looks golden, hazel eyes, a round face with full lips and naturally tanned skin. She is only 17 years old and was already proclaimed "the greatest detective there was". "Proclaimed" was a big stretch since she was still in high school and had no badge, however the thought of solving cases makes her intoxicated with excitement. She started her detective work at just 15 years old when she found a kidnapping victim for the police and no, she didn't help them, she literally did it on her own. Since then, she never allowed the police to tell her no and even if they did, she would do her own thing anyways and proved to be quite exceptional at solving cases, so she works with them at every opportunity she gets.
"They were either found by worried neighbors or by colleagues who noticed their unexplained absence and called them, to get no reply, and then they called us to go over to their house where we found them dead and the autopsy reported death by strangulation on all victims" replied the detective who was already reaching for another donut.
"Do the victims have anything in common ?" she asked while pacing the office.
"Other than the fact that they're all insanely wealthy, no.
"Was there anything stolen ?" she asked in response.
"One of Bradley Davis' cameras spotted the assailant stealing an unidentified artifact from his dresser right after he strangled him from behind using a rope." he said while sliding a folder on the desk towards Tonya's direction.. She stops pacing and finally takes a seat in front of the Lieutenant so that she can inspect the image taken from the surveillance feed. She studies the picture for a few seconds and she spots something that looks like a note on the ground next to the victim's body.
"What is this paper next to the body?" she asks curiously while looking up to face him.
"That is the more interesting part." he replied. "Look behind the picture"
She lifted the picture to see the note under it and she read out loud: "WHAT CAN TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD WHILE STAYING IN A CORNER ?- RIDDLER"
"The killer seemed to have left it there as a joke. The name he calls himself suits him since he's so fond of riddles." Lieutenant says while chuckling and putting the rest of the donuts away. "That's all I have for yah Tonya"
"Okay, I'll take the folder. And is there any chance that you could email me the surveillance footage ?"
"When do you want it ?"
"Like two days ago." replied Tonya with a straight face.
"I'll get it right to yah" replies Lieutenant.
"Great, I'll be in touch" she says as she gets up and shakes his hand. As soon as she took the folder, she left his office and exited the Police Department. She eagerly got into her Space Gray, 2016 Chevrolet Equinox and drove down the "Lake View Street" as the dark clouds burst into tears.
