Rolo reaches it first. "It's Abel!"
I pull at his hair just before he answers.
"Abel, it's Rolo. Yeah mmhmm. She's right here. Cool bye."
He finally turns to face me. "It's for you."
I snatch my phone from his hand while Rolo walks out of my room. "I'll see you tomorrow Kez!"
I bring the phone to my ear without saying anything.
"Brown eyes?" He whispers smoothly.
"Abel." I say breathlessly.
"Are you mad at me? Did I do something wrong?" He asks a softly.
"No Abel, it has nothing to do with you. Well it kind of does but I'm not mad at you."
"Oh phew, I thought I'd have to grovel."
"Well I wouldn't object to you grovelling."
Abel just chuckles. "So what made you leave so suddenly?"
"You know Eliza? She admitted to me that she likes you." I grumble out.
"Oh. Well you know that doesn't matter to me right? All I see is you Brown Eyes."
I almost squeal in delight. However, I kept my composure. "That is fantastic Abel." I reply awkwardly.
"You were jealous weren't you?" I can practically feel his smirk from here.
"N-no, What gave you that idea?"
"I can just tell. And the next time you're upset about something, let me know instead of walking away from me."
"I'm sorry."
"It's alright Brown Eyes. If I had to be honest with you, it upset me."
"I didn't mean it like that Abel I-"
I'm interrupted halfway through my sentence by my mum.
"Keziah! Who are you talking to?" She Shouts.
"I have to go Abel, just text me."
I hang up the phone.
"Just a friend from school mum!" I respond.
At that moment, Marcel bursts into my room.
"A friend from school huh? I'm sure 'Abel' is just a friend." He says mockingly.
"Shut up Marcel!"
"I'm telling mum!" He runs downstairs while I chase after him.
"Mum, Kez is talking to a boy called Abel."
My mum stops cleaning to stare at me.
"Abel?"
"Yes mum. It's actually a funny a story. So when you forced me to move seats on the plane I met him and then It turns out he transferred to my new school ha-ha."
"Wait." Marcel says. "The boy who sat next to you now goes to our school?"
"Yes."
"Huh. Interesting." He says before walking away.
"Keziah, you know what I think about you having a boyfriend."
At that moment, my dad decides to walk in.
"Who's having a boyfriend?" He asks.
"Keziah apparently."
My dad pats me on the back. "About time Kez, I was beginning to think you were boy repellent." He laughs happily.
"No Jamal, it's not a good thing. She needs to be focusing on her education not frolicking around with some boy."
"Well if he's taken an interest in my princess then I want to meet him."
"That's great dad but he's not my boyfriend."
"Keziah, we'll talk about this later." My mum says signalling the end of the conversation.
I trudge back to my room mumbling about my mums' stupid rules to find a text from Abel.
Sexiest man alive: You remember that it's you I like right? Not Eliza or anyone else.
Keziah: How much do you like me?
Sexiest man alive: Erm a lot? I don't know how to answer that.
Keziah: Out of ten?
Sexiest man alive: Currently, a strong 8. But everyday, I find more things to like about you Brown eyes.
Keziah: You have such a way with words.
Sexiest man alive: Only for you. Oh, by the way, I'm taking you to school tomorrow.
