A man sits in the hospital's procedural waiting room. He's alone. Though, he isn't sure if he prefers that. His head hangs low as he mindlessly stares at a bug crawling across the tiles. Isn't this place supposed to be clean? It's nearly 3 AM now. . . It's been too long. Something isn't right.

He drove his wife to the hospital earlier because she went into labor. Their specimen is being born today, after nine long months of preparing and planning. But the doctors had to perform an emergency C-section and had told him to wait here. He should have expected that to happen since this is the first child. He wants to be there for his wife and newborn, but cannot.

The man's face remains calm and collected, but his brain is pounding against his skull with anxiety for his wife and child. He has an itch to light up a cigarette, but the No Smoking sign prevents him to do so. He works for the police, afterall. It would be bad if someone caught him smoking in a no smoking area.

The door opens. His head shoots up, expecting to see a doctor to give him an update. But instead it's the man's childhood best friend walking in. He did say that he would be here, but you never know with him.

"Toshinori . . . I didn't think you'd show." The man speaks quietly. He stands from the cyan hospital chair to greet his friend.

Toshinori lazily smiles. "You think I wouldn't show up for this? This child is important to me too, Naomasa."

Naomasa lightly smiles. "Ah, I know. I just thought you'd be busy with your new lady and planning."

The thin blonde man chuckles. "An understandable assumption. But no woman will ever get in the way of you, dear friend."

Naomasa nods his head with an endearing smile on his face. "Thank you, Toshinori. The same with you."

The taller man pulls out a cigar, ignoring the obvious sign on the wall. "I know."

Naomasa glances at the closed door. His fingers run through his brown unbrushed hair. He's worried. Throughout the pregnancy his wife hasn't been doing so well, and now she's under surgery for their baby. He can only hope everything will be okay. But he's preparing himself for the worst that may just happen.

Toshinori hands the burning cigar to his friend which Naomasa takes without hesitation. He takes a hit even though just moments ago he told himself he wouldn't smoke.

"Ah, we need to discuss more about the Soulmates Plan." Naomasa points out as he returns the cigar, "I've done my part with having a child. When will you be having yours? Soon I'd hope."

The older man nods in agreement. "I admit I've been struggling with finding the right woman to assist, but I believe I finally found someone."

Naomasa grins amusingly. "Really now? It's the green-haired one right?"

Toshinori nods while returning the grin. "That's the one. She sees through my gimmicks every time."

Naomasa chuckles. "Ah, an intelligent one. I can admire that."

Toshinori's grin grows. "So can I. She knows exactly how to get her fill when a deal is mentioned, so you can imagine how entertaining our get togethers can be."

"You always did enjoy a challenge." Naomasa mentions amusingly. He squints his eyes with a more serious tone. "Do you think she can be an asset to the Soulmates Plan?"

Toshinori chuckles. "Oh, definitely. She has a powerful levitation Quirk, so I'm sure she'd make a powerful child as well."

He pauses before continuing "Though, she's told me how she's not interested in having children, but for the Soulmates Plan she may comply with having one child. It all depends on what she'd gain out of it all."

Naomasa nods. "So, she's at least a bit interested?"

"She is. I'm meeting with her in a few days to discuss more."

The hospital door opens slowly. Both men turn their heads over to the doctor who walks in. Naomasa holds his breath. Toshinori rests his hand on his friend's shoulder comfortingly.

The doctor's expression is calm with sympathetic eyes. "Mr. Tsukauchi?"

Naomasa nods. "That's me."

"Your baby is a healthy boy . . . But your wife, she didn't survive the surgery. I'm so sorry for your loss."
