"Checkmate"

A board lays in front of me. I've been checkmated. My opponent watches me, with a large and gentle smile on his face. Too bad, he may be handsome, but he wants what he wants. To take control of the world. How long has this game been going? Ah...yes it's been a total of 17 years, ever since I've met him. My brother has been killed, my friends have left me, and I've been living with a mask on ever since the war. The war where everyone was controlled by one major company-the Night. During the war, all the other 4 companies have crushed the Night. However, this game continued.

I remember the first time I've met him. My brother, a strict man with the only thought in his mind- become strong and work. Nothing else. However, he made friends and brought me to meet him when I was 2. Shu was a nice man, smiling and gentle. He brought me presents that I cherished, but was burned by my brother in disgust. Shu was like a brother that dotted on me. I've never noticed the cold light that was behind those warm, brown eyes.

The day my brother was announced dead, I was crying. Shu comforted me and in my vulnerable state, I trusted him completely. When he was the successor of the Wind company, I congratulated him. I was genuinely happy. He was the brother I never had.

Then everything changed. I've seen the things he did. I didn't want to say anything because he was my pillar in my harsh life. Then I saw the board that lay in front of me. All along, he've been using me as a tool, and he was winning.

My knight and both of my walls were gone. Then it was my bishops. I'm losing. Pain and anger ignited my heart as I looked at my opponent clearly for the first time. It was a smiling Shu with a pair of cold but warm eyes. Then I see my last knight that has my brother's features carved onto it. It was discarded to the edge of the board. I picked it up and put it with the rest of my pieces. Shu's expression changed to shock. The tides slowly turned.

Smiling innocently, I said,

"Checkmate, my old friend."
