(Y/N) always reflected back to the lessons her grandmother taught her. The lessons sounded basic and easy when they were being said, but they were much harder to act on. Thinking back on it (Y/N) thought of them more as rules. And her father didn’t like it when she broke the rules. (Y/N) rubbed her cheek. She could remember the cold sting of her father’s hand. The hard metal from the ring on his finger. She looked at the ground as a tear fell from her face.
The next morning -
The alarm clock on (Y/N) nightstand read “5:30 a.m.” as she got up from her bed and threw on the first t-shirt and leggings she could find. She settled on a black t-shirt, a pair of plain black leggings, and a balck hoodie with “BYE” written across the chest. (Y/N) grabbed her phone and opened the door as quietly as she could. She didn’t want to wake her father. She knew he was drinking last night and knew he probably didn’t go to bed until 4 a.m. this morning. Which meant he was a ticking time bomb until at least 2 p.m.
(Y/N) crept down the creaky steps. “Goddamn this old house” she whispered. She finally got to the bottom of the steps. (Y/N) made a sharp left to the bathroom. She got to the bathroom went inside and closed the door. She pulled the scale out from behind the toilet and stepped on it. She stood still for a second then looked down. The scale read “175”. She put the scale back and looked in the mirror. A tear rolled down her cheek.
No Crying
She quickly wiped the tear away with her hand. She turned on the sink. She let the water run until the water was ice cold. She cupped her hands and filled them with the water. In a swift motion, she put her head to her hands and her hands to her head and splashed the water in her face. Putting her hands on the edges of the sink, she looked around for a towel. To her right there was a towel sitting on the shelf above the toilet. She grabbed it and patted her face. (Y/N) threw the towel to the laundry basket in the corner. She walked back to the kitchen and looked at the fridge. “No, you don’t deserve it. Not today” she said. (Y/N) walked out the front door. It was still kinda dark out considering it was only 5:45 a.m. She pulled out her phone from her pocket. (Y/N) quickly noticed she got a text. It was from her boyfriend, Kevin. She opened it and started walking. The text read, “Need a ride?” (Y/N) replied, “Yeah, that would be great. Thx” She stopped walking. “Thank god I didn’t make it that far.” She turned around and sat on the steps in front of her house. Within five minutes Kevin was there. (Y/N) hopped into the car. Kevin leaned over to kiss her. (Y/N) turned her head to kiss him back. “Now, off to hell!” Kevin yelled. They got to school and kissed yet again. They parted ways and (Y/N) went off to homeroom. She knew trouble was about to begin.
