Morning

I slowly open my eyes to the smell of bacon, mmm. The sunlight is peeking through my curtains and illuminating my cozy room.  I stretch out my limbs and let out a groan as my joints let out a satisfying pop.  Hugging my covers for warmth one last time before throwing them off and snatching my phone, I bolt to the kitchen.  There I see my mom with a pan on the stove cooking her famous crispy bacon.  Well, not necessarily famous, but it really should be!  It's mouthwatering...

She smiles my direction and gestures toward my spot at the table.  I rush to my seat and practically vibrate with excitement.  Alex is sitting across from me, sucking on his fingers.  "I bet you can't wait to be old enough to eat that."  He looks at mom and smiles, bouncing like a wittle kangaroo.  "Too bad I'm gonna eat them all before you do."  He quickly turns to me and with a deeply offended expression.  I laugh and reach across to squeeze his cheeks.

He grabs my arms and pulls them down.  I twist them out of his grasp and gape at his strength.  Also, that was weally wude!  "How could you betray me like this?!"  I dramatically put the tips of my fingers to my forehead and tilt my head back.  Little Alex starts laughing so I keep it up, swinging my arms around.  "My own brother, I cannot believe this!  The audacity!  I trusted you!"  He starts babbling and smiling.  "Don't you say that to me mister!  Don't you know who I am?  I demand that you allow me to hug you!"  He does the grabby hands again so I walk over and give him a big squeeze.

My mom chuckles, "You guys are adorable.  I hate to interrupt, but can you get me some plates?"  I set the vicious monster free from my grasp and lightly boop his nose.  Laughing at his wide-eyed response, I open the cabinet and carefully take out the top three from a stack of dishes that my mom requested.  I put them next to the stove and pull out my phone to check the time.  It seems the sun woke me up early, it's only 7:34 AM!  But it might be for the best as I apparently have 20 MISSED CALLS FROM THOMAS.  I excuse myself and reenter my bedroom, shutting the door.  Another call goes through and I almost drop my phone trying to pick up.

"(Y/N)!! THANK GOD!"  The urgency in his voice is quite alarming, and the distortion from the weak connection almost makes it sound like the loud echo Virgil has sometimes.  Even though I show some warranted concern, I try to mask my anxiety with a yawn and an exhausted 'I just woke up' tone.  "Dude it's not even 8 yet, what's wrong?"  "Uhhhh, Remus hid all the Crofters and Logan is kinda freaking out..."  I can't help but snort, "Oh jeez, you want me to buy you some?"  "If it's not too much trouble!"  "There is nothing you could ask me for that would ever be too much trouble!  Plus this gives me a chance to meet the sides!"  "Thank you so much! You're a life-saver!"  "I'll come by as quick as I can."

After a long series of goodbyes since neither of us want to be rude by ending the call, I wind up guiltily pushing the red button and shoving my phone in my pocket.  I'm just about to head out and quickly finish breakfast when my door creaks open.  My mom steps inside, her arms holding up Alex and her shoulder keeping her phone pressed against her ear.  "Uh huh... yeah... I'll try... thank you."  She moves Alex to one side and grabs the phone, tapping to complete her call as well.

I give her an expectant look and she smiles.  "I finally got accepted for a job!  My first shift is in a few hours, so I'm going to need you to watch your brother again."  It's almost like he can understand her, because little Alex wraps his baby limbs around her with all the strength they can muster.  I can feel my face turn pale, but try to keep up a pleasantly surprised grin.  She ruffles his hair, "Do you think you can do that for me?"

My mom finally got a job.  After a month of not knowing if we'd be able to pay off our bills, she'll be making some money.  I feel bad that I never got a job of my own, but my hours have been filled with school and little events like in the past few days.  She pays for my clothes, my food, my water, my shelter, my heat, my air conditioning, my TV, my data, and my car.  I seriously owe it to her to watch him, but I have the chance to go to Thomas Sanders house!  If only there was some way to do both!
