Ode (from the land ancient greek ὠδή) is a type of lyrical verse. A classic ode is structured in three major parts: the strophe, the antistrophe, and the epode. Different forms such as the homostrophic ode and the irregular ode also exist. It is an elaborately structured poem praising or glorifying an event or individual, describing nature intellectually as well as emotionally.

~A lyrical verse written in praise of, or dedicated to someone or something which captures the poet's interest or serves as an inspiration for the ode.

I've always loved to write about stars. These stars being my inspiration, I wrote...

To those stars

On nighttime skies of midnight black --

From there I see them staring back:

These bold gems of warm glowing hue

While on their silken wings they flew.

I never knew whose eyes were those

That spoke with mine to ease my woes.

Perhaps they are the souls long gone

To heaven, when all toils were done.

And now they watch me, as I dream...

They wait for when, with them, I'd beam

And shine! Like them, I'd bring forth light

Illuminate the garish night.

I'll be the poet's nighttime friend:

A muse on which he could depend

As he spins tales of love and loss,

On leaves and pages to emboss.

As I do now, they'll look at me:

Those young hearts that would hope to see

The past and future holding hands,

Dreams roaming free in wonderlands.

Perhaps, they too would try to voice

The wishes forged, the whispered choice

As stars streak down the dark night sky.

They'll never ask or wonder why.

So, if I could have one last word

That would be read, or maybe heard,

I'd like to sing these stars an ode,

As they shine bright from their abode:

Oh Lady... Goddess of the night

Please beam upon us with your light.

So long you've guided souls that roam,

But now I beg, escort us home

With you, there in the skies above

Unspoiled by wrath and filled with love.
