Luke's POV
All was silent for a moment. Then as if we were rockets, we launched out of the car, Ashton and Michael almost tripping over each other. As we were running towards the girl, she turned her head toward us, before closing her eyes.
"No, no, nonononono! Open your eyes, open your eyes!" I gasped as I dropped to my knees beside her. "Ashton, call an ambulance!" I turned my attention back to the girl. Her long brown hair lay spread on the concrete, like a halo. As far as I could tell, the only blood on her was from gashes on her arms from rolling on the concrete. She must have hit her head pretty hard, though, she was still unconscious.
"Hello, yes we have an emergency! We just hit a girl with our car! She's unconscious!" Ashton was talking to the operater. He sounded pretty frantic, saying, "Where are we, I don't know, we were kind of lost when we hit her, Callum, go find a street sign!" Callum took off running. I soon lost sight of him in the dark. There weren't many street lamps around. "Luke, is she breathing? Tell me she's breathing!"
I leaned closer to her, holding my breath, fearing the worst. I let out a relieved sigh as I caught the faint rise and fall of her chest. "Yes! Yes, Ashton, she's breathing! It's very faint, but she's breathing!" As Ashton relayed this to the operater, Michael knelt beside the girl next to me.
"At least we know why she was out this late. She's in work uniform, she must have been on her way home. Maybe she lives in this complex?" I nodded.
"Hey, Luke, the lady said we should look for an ID on her!" Ashton said. I carefully stuck my hand in her jacket pocket, looking for her wallet. I pulled it out, feeling kind of guilty, even if I wasn't stealing it. It was a pink leather wallet with a picture of Hello Kitty on it. I would have laughed if the situation wasn't so serious. Inside, I found a drivers' liscence, along with a library card and about fifteen dollars in cash and a debit card.
Callum came running back, shouting, "We're on White Dove Road!" Ashton relayed this news to the operator. Callum knelt beside us, asking, "Is she gonna be okay?" I ignored him as I focused on the task on hand, figuring out who we had hurt.
"Alana! Her name is Alana Clark!" I exclaimed and placed the wallet back in her pocket, not before taking a look at the picture on the ID. She was quite pretty, smiling radiantly. I gently patted her head with my hand, whispering, "Wake up, Alana. Please don't die. Just open your eyes." God, she looked so tiny. She couldn't be more than five foot two inches tall. "Please wake up!" My hand rested on her cheek, it was so smooth. Suddenly, she groaned slightly and her eyes fluttered. In the distance, I could hear the sound of ambulance sirens getting closer.
"Hey, sweety, wake up. You're gonna be okay, " Michael said, softly. Her eyes opened and she stared at me for a moment before she seemed to figure out what was going on.
Alana's POV
The first thing I was aware of was a gentle had on my cheek. Then I heard voices.
"Wake up, Alana. Please don't die. Just open your eyes. Please wake up!" I thought, but I couldn't be sure, that this voice came from whoever was touching my cheek. How did he know my name? A second voice said, "Hey, sweety, wake up. You're gonna be okay." This voice was a little to my left. Then I heard sirens.
My eyes flew open and I focused on the first thing I saw, which happened to be a pair of blue eyes staring down at me. He was the owner of the hand currently resting on my cheek. Who was he? Then I began to take more notice of my surroundings, there were four boys around me and sirens were getting louder. Ambulance.
Ah hells no! I jerked away from them, struggling into an upright position, exclaiming, "What the hell?! I gotta get out of here!" I tried to get up, only to have the blue eyed boy push me back until I was laying down again, saying as I struggled, "Hey, hey, hey, calm down! The ambulance is almost here! Just stay calm." I tried to sit up again, saying, "No, no, NO! I don't need an ambulance! I don't need to go to the hospital! Let. Me. UP." But he refused, holding me down.
"No, you need help! Just calm down, okay? You hit your head and your arms are bleeding. Please calm down," he said. I started to panic. I hated hospitals, always have, ever since my sister died in one three years ago. I could NOT go back!
"No... Please no!" It came out as more of a weak gasp. The boy interrupted me, moving his hands to my shoulders. He was now kneeling almost on top of me. He said, "Hey, hey! Look at me. Okay? Hello, hi. My name is Luke, okay? Luke. And these are my friends, Michael, Callum and Ashton. Hey, look at me, at us. We will not hurt you. You're gonna be okay, Alana! Just stay calm, okay? Can you do that?"
Callum said, "Can you just relax for us, Alana? Nothing is going to happen to you, we promise. Right, Luke?" He nudged Luke and Luke said, "Yeah. I promise nothing bad will happen to you."
"Yeah, she's awake now!" I heard the one called Ashton saying into a phone, as the sirens got louder. Tears were crawling out of the corners of my eyes. Suddenly, I was aware of both of my hands being wrapped in warm hands. Luke and Michael each had hold of one of my hands.
My vision started to get fuzzy and my head began to throb. Or maybe it was always hurting, I just hadn't noticed. "Hey, stay with us, okay? Alana? Say something!" Michael said.
My eyes drooped and I slurred, "'S' fine. I'm jussst soo sleepy. I think... I think... Ima just go to sleep. Don't... don't leave me...."
"No, Alana, stay with me! Don't go to sleep!" That was Luke's voice. I felt a slight shake on my shoulders, but everything was going a bit numb. It felt as if I was feeling things through cotton.
"Just don't.... leave me...." I pleaded, drowsily. Luke squeezed my hand whispering, "I won't leave, I promise. You can count on me. Just please, stay awake!"
I heard people running towards us and loud sirens. But all that noise faded away as everything darkened once more.
Luke's POV
Alana was unconscious agian. The paramedics arrived on scene, they got her into the ambulance. I climbed into the back with her and grabbed her hand.
"Sir, you can't ride in the back!" One of them said.
"With all do respect, sir, I promised her I wouldn't leave her. Okay? I made her a promise and I'm sticking to it!" He looked at me a minute before nodding.
"We'll meet you at the hospital, " Michael told me, before they got in their car.
The ride to the hospital was a blur. I don't remember much besides Alana's small hand in mine. She didn't wake up during the ride. When we arrived at the hospital, she was rushed in and taken down a hallway, to surgery.
One of the nurses stopped me as I tried to follow, "Sir, you can't go back there. You're going to have to wait in the waiting room. "
I watched as she was rolled down the hallway and around a corner. Then she disappeared. I had no choice but to sit and wait.
So that's what I did.
