Chapter 5.

"Yea"I smile a bit.

"He's in the conference room"he tells me while pointing to the room by the Chief's office.

"Thanks"he nods and walks away. I walk towards the closed double doors, holding the tray of coffee. I was still in my scrubs from the shift I had just ended. Pushing on the door, I see two massive whiteboards in front, they were handling a murder case I wouldn't be surprised that this room was very hectic.

"Hello?" I say.

"Julie"I hear, I look to the end of the conference room to see Leo and Finley.

"I brought coffee"I smile at the two. Leo straightens up and walks over to me.

"I definitely owe you, especially since their large"He says walking up to me. I smile and place them on the nearest table next to me. "Fin, come on. Take a break man"Leo says and Fin sighs but obeys.

"Thought you guys could use the boast" I say, crossing my arms and looking around. "It definitely seems that I walked into a brain explosion"

"Yea that's a good way to say it"Finley says tiredly to me, sitting down on a chair and slouching.

"Yea well, this is our first huge case together and clearly we're having trouble"Leo says to me. I take another look around the room and down to Finley who was practically falling asleep. "I need to get out of this precinct for a bit, how about I drive you home?" He suggests.

"Sure"I give him a smile.

"Fin, stand up. I'm gonna go get some food and more caffeine"Finley stands up and gets back to work.

"Get some energy drinks"He says.

"Yea"Leo says and nods for me to start heading out. I nod. Leo sighs as he closes the door behind us.

"You Okay?" I ask him and he nods, wrapping an arm around my waist.

"Yea just exhausted"he tells me with a small smile.

"Maybe perhaps I should be the one to drive you home"I joke as we walk to his desk and he grabs his keys, he takes another sip of coffee.

He looks down at me and I sigh "I was kidding, but you should get some sleep" I tell him as we enter the elevator.

"Yea I will, I just need to catch this guy or person whatever"He sighs. The two of us stayed silent until we arrived at my apartment.

"Look, you've gotta talk to someone who isn't a cop or coroner or paramedic. So talk" I tell him as I look over at him. He had his left arm up on the window, rubbing his forehead, his eyes closed.

"It's a homicide case"he tells me "The one girl, she was a couple years younger then us, and the other was a seven year old girl"he looks at me, pain in his eyes. "Julie, they had so much life ahead of them"he stresses "and if I don't find out who killed these two innocent girls, I will never be able to look myself in the mirror" he says. I listen to him, tears in my eyes as I lean forward and grab his hand.

"I know this is your first case and your stressing but you have to breath" he lets out a long sigh.

He sighs again and shakes his head, eyes shutting down again "look I can tell how important this is to you but you have to remember that sometimes you can't always solve a puzzle" i tell him.

"I became a cop to solve the unsolvable puzzles Jules"He looks at me. I nod slowly.

"I know"

"I have to solve this, their families deserve it"I sigh and realize I won't be getting anywhere.

"Promise me one thing while your solving this case"he raises his eyebrows at me. "Just take care of yourself, get some sleep tonight" his lips tilt up into a small smile.

"Okay"I nod

"And you better not be lying"

"I will crash on your couch just to prove I'm not lying" I chuckle.

"I'd rather not you sleep on the couch but my room"he smirks.

"Thanks beautiful but I should really just get some more food and shit and head back to work. Plus you look exhausted yourself" He tells me. I nod, agreeing.

I lean over tilt his chin to me "I'll text you later?" I ask him and he nods. I give him a smile before I lean forward and kiss him. He pulls me closer to him by placing a hand on the back of my head.

I pull away and bite my bottom lip "you have to go to work"I whisper.

"Fuck work"I chuckle and he kisses me again before I step out of the car.

"Hey beautiful!" I hear, I turn around to see the window now drawn back "get some sleep Alright, you don't have to worry about me"

I give him a smile before I slip into the foyer of the apartment building, wanting to step away from the cold breezing past me. But before I could I see a man on the street looking right at me, pulling on the door I look back to see if Leo was still there but he was already gone.

I enter Amelia and I'd apartment and I knew she was already asleep because we had a quick lunch at the cafe by the precinct. I had debated if I wanted to shower before I let sleep take over me or if I'd end up falling asleep in the shower. I decided I'd take a quick shower since I had a coffee at lunch.

But once my head did hit my pillows, I was out like a light bulb.

"Dinner was delicious tonight Jane"Amelia says to Cooper's fiancé. She smiles at her.

"Thank you"She thanks me.

"Sucks that your cop friend couldn't make it" Cooper smirks at me.

"First his name is Leo"I tell him "and he's been taking the Hudson River case so he's stressing"

"First big case?" Jane asks from the kitchen. I nod.

"So you two dating or?" Cooper asks me, leaning back.

I stare at my older step brother "we haven't put labels" he looks to Amelia sitting beside me.

"I'd say so"my best friend says.

"Okay stop"Jane says "we are here to celebrate these two on becoming official nurses"She says placing a cake in the middle of the dinner table.

"Aw, Jane you didn't have too"I smile up at her.

"Uhh of course we did. You two have worked so hard in school" she smiles.

"It's your two favourite" Cooper smiles.

"So the same birthday cake we've been having since I befriended Amelia?" I joke.

"Hey"Amelia punched my arm gently and I laugh.
