Chapter 2: New Beginnings, Same Shit

Start from the beginning

"Looks like we have our first volunteer." She motions for Rue to come on stage. "Please don't do this to me." Rue muttered not cracking Mrs. Applegate. "Everyone give her a round of encouragement." The lady said as Rue walked onto the stage slowly.

"Um, a memory?" Rue asked.

"Anything that had an impact on you this summer." She responded as I shook my head at the teacher who already knew that Rue od'd this summer.

"Uh, I dont- I don't I can't think." Rue stuttered out.

"Just tell us a specific memory."

"Uhm I was, um, with my mom, and my uh, my little sister, and we were, uhm, listening to this song. Do I have to do this?" Rue's face was illuminated by the stage lights that were directly on her face, showing the tears that steadily fell from her eyes.

"Honestly I bet it's brain damage." A girl said from behind Lexi and I making us both turn around.

"Shut the fuck up." I said to them as Lexi said "You're being fucking rude."

Turning around I looked towards the stage to see Rue running off. Lexi and I both went to get up the teacher stopped me saying "Since you want to talk so much Y/n you're next." She pointed to the stage as I just motioned for Lexi to go find Rue.

Walking up the stairs to the stage all of the lights except one turned off, honestly catching me off guard at how bright it was in my face.

"Ok Y/n give me 5 minutes." Mrs. Applegate leaned back in her chair.

"How am I supposed to make this five minutes?"

"Just go Y/n."

"This summer I didn't do too much." I said truthfully "I just moved back here from Chicago."

"When did you move back?"

"Like two days ago." I responded.

"Why?"

My face scrunched up at the women's question. There was no reason for her to be probing trying to get more out of me. She had 40 students to get through with atfer me.

"Personal reasons." I tried to rush off of the stage to go find Rue and Lexi but Mrs. Applegate stopped me and basically threatened to give me detention for a week if I left.

Which I thought was a little extra but I didn't want to try it. I honestly had no time to be getting detention this early in the year.

"I'm intrigued," A girl spoke next to me once I was sitting back down. "From Chicago back to this shitty town. The reason must've been serious."

I looked over at the girl who was speaking to me, unamused with what she was saying.

But once I got a look everything in my brain flipped cause she was fine as hell.

She was light skinned. I'm assuming black and Asian from looks.

But she had full lips, curly hair, big brown eyes, and tattoos...

She was gone be trouble.

"It was pretty serious if I say so myself," I said back to the girl, trying my best to subtly take in her appearance. "But I would rather be here than there any day."

"Really? Cause I would pay to move back to Chicago."

"You from there?" I questioned the girl who nooded her head in response. "When you move out here?"

"Three years ago now."

"That's crazy." I mumbled.

"Why is that?" I watched the girl's eyes drop down my face. She was doing the exact same thing I was doing to her
