Rain was not always my name, before my name came to be I was just a nameless baby boy. After I was born my birth mother gave me up to an orphanage. She abandoned me on the back steps of this orphanage I was soon to grow up in. That night was not a calm one, there was a heavy rain with crackling thunder and lightning all across the land. As I was just one years old at the time sitting there helpless and crying out, the backdoor suddenly swung open and out came a little girl I would soon know as June.
June was a seven-year-old girl who lived at this orphanage along with others varying from ages of one to in their twenties. After June found me on the back steps, she took me inside to Sister Lily. Sister Lily was the caretaker of this orphanage and when June found her Sister Lily was surprised at what she saw. Little June carrying a small baby that she did not recognize, hair of pure silver and eyes as green as the finest Jade. Sister Lily held me in her arms and took me to the den to sit beside the fire with June by her side making sure I stayed warm and fed. From her resting spot beside Sister Lily in front of the warm fire, June asked if she could be the one to name me. Sister Lily thought about it for a little while and then said
"Okay since you are the one who saved him, I will allow you to name him."
After a good minute of thought, June said with certainty
"Rain, his name is Rain because we found him on a rainy night!"
and that is how the nameless baby boy became known as Rain.
Fourteen years have passed since that day and I am now fifteen years old, Sister Lily thirty-nine years old and June at twenty-one years old. I have been training for ten years now starting at the age of five with my big brother Ruin. He was ten years old when I came into the family, now he is twenty-four years old. Ruin taught me how to fight with all types of weaponry, but we found out very soon on in our training that I was an in fighter, so Ruin taught me the way of the short sword and dagger. Although it was fun, there was not enough skill or excitement in it for me, so I started to carry two daggers and dual wield my short swords. Ruin was impressed on how fast I was learning to dual wield and use my daggers. Another five years have passed, now at twenty years old a master with both dual wielding short swords and daggers I was confident in my abilities to help Ruin with hunting and protecting our home where the ones who matter most were June and Sister Lily, but I would soon find out that having the skills and abilities the protect someone I loved meant nothing in the end.
One day Ruin and I were out hunting as we were just about to get our kill for dinner, we heard this loud ungodly roar. However, this was no ordinary roar Ruin looked at me and said "that's a dragon" after hearing that I just started running as fast as I could back to the orphanage, back to where June was. Ruin was hot on my heels right behind me as we both ran out of the forest; we were shocked at what we saw. Our home up in flames the screams of our family being burned alive. The dragon on the ground bellowing out its flames of crimson all around the orphanage, we then saw the door burst open and watched as kids came out running with Sister Lily and June right behind them. Ruin and I started yelling and waving our hands to show everyone where we were and to come to us, but as this happened the dragon saw everyone come out of the door. I noticed the dragon was looking at them and I started running to June, but then the dragon let out a roar of fire burning all the children to ashes as I was still running for June, she and Sister Lily were also hit by those flames. June then let out a scream that would haunt me for the rest of my days and nights "Rain help me!" her voice piercing my ears and my heart as she and Sister Lily both fell to the ground dead. I ran through the burning field still ablaze from the dragons' crimson fire. The field filled with the scattered bones, blood and ashes of my family, I finally came upon June, looking down at her burnt corpse unable to even tell who she is anymore. Now I felt the anger and rage seep inside my bones taking over me. Ruin now stood next to me as he saw Sister Lily and June, he too felt the rage taking him over. He then unsheathed his sword and ran towards the dragon. I too unsheathed both my short swords and followed.
