"Are you sure I should be getting the promotion?" I asked. My boss looked up from the papers that sat in front of him and laughed softly.

"Damon you know I wouldn't even consider promoting you if I didn't think that you could handle it. Besides do you really want one of these teenagers to be assistant manager? They'll turn this place into a pig pen," he said gesturing around the cafe. As if on cue, the teens who were working began laughing loudly and goofing off.

"I guess I'll manage," I said with a slight smile. After finalizing the paperwork and having a quick chat about the weather, I clocked out for the day.

The walk to my apartment was only about twenty minutes, so on the way there I grabbed a bottle of Merlot and some roses to share with my boyfriend.

I hope he'll be as excited as I am, I thought to myself. I let my mind wander as a mixture of excitement and anxiety began to swell inside of me. My boyfriend has a way of finding things out, he does it so well that the FBI was going to hire him eventually. He didn't necessarily like that I worked at a cafe, but he knew it made me happy.

"Damon is that you?" asked an older woman with thick glasses.

"It's me Ms. Devoux," I said rolling my eyes in mock annoyance. Like usual she was watering the many small plants that lined her patio, most of them being flowers.

"Good news?" she asked gesturing to the roses in my hand. I gave a quick nod before heading up the stairs to my apartment. For a moment I fumbled for my keys until I could finally get the key into the lock.

Locking the door behind me I noticed that the house was empty.

Must've been called into work, I thought as I set the wine and roses on the table. When I left my shoes by the door I noticed a pair of dress shoes I've never seen before. They were made of black leather and looked like they had just been taken out of the box. A small part of me was suspicious, but eventually I dismissed it a another one of Frank's random purchases.

I made the short walk to my room, stripping off my coat on the way there. As I entered the hallway I became aware of a soft moaning.

"Did he leave the TV on again?" I asked reaching for our bedroom door. Just as I was about to grab the door knob I heard a man's voice.

"Too bad your boyfriend isn't here to join us, I bet he would love to join me," he said. For a moment I froze, my hand hovering just above the door knob. My heart was already pounding, but what I heard next made it stop completely.

That voice sounds familiar

" You and I both know he could never fuck me like this," laughed Frank.

So many emotions whirled in my head in those next few moments but they settled one. Pure anger. Without thinking I swung the door open to find my boyfriend of five years fucking my former manager. At first it felt like my mind couldn't process the situation, but once the initial shock faded it took everything in me to not punch either of them dead in the face.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me," I growled. I looked at both of them in the bed together, my anger slowly boiling over. Frank looked like he was going to cry while his lover had the biggest smirk on his face.

"I want you to pack your shit and get the fuck out," I said flatly. Before Frank could protest I slammed the door shut and stormed out of the apartment. It had started to rain as if to mock how I was feeling in that moment.

I needed to clear my head, but my mind was so overwhelmed with everything that just happened that I couldn't think straight. I started walking into the storm with no direction in mind.

"I can't stay in this rain for long," I whispered when I heard the first crack of thunder. The rain had already soaked through my jacket and had begun to soak my shirt. The cold breeze made it feel like I was going to freeze right on the spot, slowly threatening pneumonia. The final straw was when the sky opened up and completely soaked through all my clothes.I was far from any hotel and was way too far from my apartment to start walking back.

"I need to see her," I said regretfully. With no other options I began to make the journey to find the one person who would probably take me in for the night.

I just hope she won't slam the door in my face.
