First Day (Edited)

Start from the beginning

'It is.'

"Tenya? It's Kaya. Do you remember me? We went to school in Hosu together," she said, shaking his hand.

"I can't say I do. I only lived in Hosu for a short time."

"But we spent every day together. Our brothers were best friends."

"I think you're mistaken. My brother didn't have any close friends in Hosu. That's why we moved."

'But you were at the hospital when...' she thought but couldn't bring herself to think the rest. Even after all these years, it was still hard to think that her brother was dead.

It's your fault. His voice echoed in her head.

"Nevermind, I must have had someone else in mind."

She turned away and laid her chin on her arms causing the raven-haired boy to awkwardly leave. Other students started to fill in the seats around them, and then the bell rang. The minutes ticked by, and there was no sign of Aizawa.

'He must have fallen asleep in the teacher's lounge,' she thought. Tenya was yelling at a blond, spikey haired boy who had his feet on the desk. A boy with green hair came through the door followed closely by a girl with brown hair. The three of them were talking when the door opened again and surprised all of them. Kaya leaned forward to see Aizawa sucking on an applesauce pouch and curled up in his yellow sleeping bag. She couldn't help but smile as everybody tensed, and Aizawa climbed out of the sleeping bag.

"Change into your gym clothes and head out to the grounds," he said, handing out the uniforms.

"What about the welcome ceremony?" the brown-haired girl asked.

"Pro heroes don't have time for welcome ceremonies. We have work to do." Aizawa left again, and everybody stood up to change. Kaya met the rest of the class outside and flexed her wings. There was enough space now to do so without hitting someone, but the back of the gym clothes was a little revealing.

"Up till now, you have not been able to use your quirks to enhance your physical abilities. In order to continue at this school, you will have to know the limits of your quirks along with your physical capabilities. There will be a number of tests where you will be able to use your quirks. Also, the student that comes in last place will be expelled." Everybody looked around nervously, and the tests began. First was a fifty-meter run which Iida easily won. Next was a standing long jump that Kaya won. Then the long-distance run, which ended up being easy for both, the grip strength test, repeated sidestep, seated toe touch, and sit ups. The last two tests were easier because of her training with Aizawa, and she was able to collect a good number of points. The results came up at the end, and Kaya was ranked fifth, right after Iida. The student in last was Midoriya, the green-haired boy, who almost started crying. It was then that Aizawa told the class that nobody was going to be expelled, after all, as it was only the first day and left the class behind. Everybody sighed in relief and made their way back to the locker rooms.

The other classes continued throughout the day, and, finally, they walked into Present Mic's class.

"Kaya," he stopped her once she had come through the door, "Aizawa, was he?" he couldn't find the right words to ask.

"We're fine, and he's not mad at you either," she responded. He breathed out a sigh of relief, and his eyes softened as they met hers again.

"We were really worried. Why didn't you say something?"

"I'm sorry. I just had to." Her head dipped, and he lightly chopped her head.

"We're here for you, Kaya. Please remember that." She nodded and went to her seat in the class. A couple of pairs of eyes followed her as she sat behind Midoriya who was mumbling like crazy. He finally turned around with a flurry of energy and limbs.

"How do you know Present Mic? Are you two close? How long have you been close? How did you meet him? What's his favorite kind of tea?"

"Midoriya, breathe." He took a breath and let it out slowly, still overly excited. "We're not that close, but I do know him. We met over the summer on the street, and he bought me a coffee. That's it."

"Oh okay." He was disappointed that the story wasn't more exciting, but there wasn't any way that Kaya was going to tell the real story of how they met.

The final bell rang, and the students filed out the doors. Kaya was waiting at the door to the 1-A homeroom waiting for Aizawa.

"Hey, kid. How was class?" He asked from behind her. She spun around with a smile.

"Good. It's weird being in school again?" He started walking toward the doors, and she followed.

"Good or bad weird?" He looked over his scarf at her, and she caught a quick glimpse of concern flash through his eyes.

"Good, weird. Different, I guess. It's nice not having the responsibility of keeping my friends alive." They were walking out of the gate at that point. Aizawa watched as the setting sun hit her face as she just enjoyed the air around her. He put his arm around her shoulders as a response, and she smiled at him. He couldn't help but smile back. Recovery Girl was right: she was changing him, unknowingly, but she pulled out a side of him few people have ever seen.
