Chapter 2

Emily's P.O.V

I saw him walk into the room, smiling as he left his mates, to go see where he was sat. He turned around, with a confused look on his face and then it returned to his usual happy face because one of his friends shouted something across the room, of which I didnt quite catch. Then before I even registered, he was sat next to me. And that's how I nearly had a heart attack, ha. The popular kids never spoke to me, and honestly I liked it that way. So I preferred them to sit the opposite side of the room, rather than right next to me.

The teacher began the usual introduction you get when they have a new class. 'Hello, I'm your teacher for this year' got on my nerves been as I had to hear it like 10 times every year, of pretty much my whole entire life.

"So if you would talk to the person next to you, about what the author is trying to get across, please" Miss T said. Shit! I looked around, not knowing whether he would actually speak to me, but he did. "Hi" he smiled "I'm Ashton, your Emily, right?" "Yeah" that's all I could say.

"Er, do you get this? I'm not very good at this." Ashton asked. "Yeah, the author is trying to tell you that they love each other, just without saying it." Talking about love with a boy, even if its only a book, is new to me.

I've never had a boyfriend. Well, a proper one, that I liked. My first, and only boyfriend I have had, was called Jake. He never really spoke to me, apart from at lunch, where he kissed me to show off to kiss friends. He was a bit of dick but he's the only guy who ever asked me out.

"Oh, okay." He said. I couldn't tell if he actually didn't know the answer or just didn't try.

School was a place that liked to kill kids spirits. You wake up, go to school, do school work, go home, do homework, go to sleep. And while doing all that you have to eat socialize and do whatever activities you do outside of school. Me, I had barely a social life, apart from occasionally going out with my friends, and my after school activities were down to zero, been as i quit them to have time to study and get a job. And well before I knew it was Wednesday and I was back at school.

English first lesson. Ashton was in his seat next to me. "Right, now I know its only your second day but.." UGH!! Something that we are all going to hate. "You have an assignment" there it is. "However, you aren't doing your assignment alone. You will work with the person next to you. You can do it either separate and then put your work together or together, which would probably be easier. Your assignment is on 'how does John Green shows that the characters love each other?' Its due in next week on Monday."

"So, do you wanna work on it together or separately?" I asked him. "Erm, together. Its easier to do. Do you wanna come around mine after school, to do the work?" He spoke. I wasn't sure, I mean I can't just say yes straight away. "Er, yeah okay." "I'll meet you at reception after school, so you can come to mine, then" "okay" it was awkward because we had barely ever spoke but maybe later it won't be as weird.
