Thebes, City of the Living, crown Jewel of Pharaoh Seti the First. Home of Imhotep, husband of Princess Chione, and Pharaoh's high priest, keeper of the dead. Birthplace of Anck-Su-Namun, Pharaoh's mistress. No other man was allowed to touch her... But for their love, they were willing to risk life itself. Anck-Su-Namun stood on the balcony across from princess Nefertiri's room unaware of the sharp eyes of the oldest and the curious stares of the youngest. "Why are we watching her?" Chione questioned "Hush, look." Nefertiri pointed at the dark haired woman, who was now locked in a passionate kiss with Imhotep. Chione felt a rush of sadness and betrayal course through her as she witnessed her husband embrace Anck-Su-Namun. The two princesses shoved their feelings aside when their father entered Anck-Su-Namun's chamber and approached the girl. "Who has touched you?!" Imhotep appeared behind the Pharaoh with a sword and the two girls called for the guards but it was too late. Anck-Su-Namun raised her dagger and plunged it into the Pharaoh's back. Nefertiri reached over the balcony but lost her balance and fell to the ground below, the youngest child reached out for her but was pulled back by a Medji, not just a Medji but her personal guard, Sadiki. At the realization that he father and sister were gone, Chione let out a cry that rattled Egypt to its very core and promptly fell limp in Sadiki's arms. Imhotep, though heartbroken at hearing his wife's scream raced off into the night. To resurrect Anck-Su-Namun, Imhotep and his priests broke into her crypt and stole her body. They raced deep into the desert, taking Anck-Su-Namun's corpse to Hamunaptra, City of the Dead, ancient burial site for the sons of pharaohs and resting place for the wealth of Egypt. For his love, Imhotep dared the gods' anger by going deep into the city, where he took the black Book of the Dead from it's holy resting place. Anck-Su-Namun's soul had been sent to the dark underworld, her vital organs removed and placed in five sacred Canopic jars. Imhotep chanted softly in egyptian as a black smoky figure emerged from the dark liquid in the center of the room. Anck-Su-Namun's soul had come back from the dead, but Pharaoh's bodyguards had followed lmhotep and stopped him before the ritual could be completed. The trial was agony for Imhotep, all he could see was his wife, who sat beside her older brother, avoiding his pleading gaze. Imhotep's priests were condemned to be mummified alive. As for Imhotep, he was condemned to endure the Hom-Dai, the worst of all ancient curses. One so horrible, it had never before been bestowed. He was to remain sealed inside his sarcophagus, be undead for all of eternity. The Magi would never allow him to be released, for he would arise a walking disease, a plague upon mankind, an unholy flesh-eater with the strength of ages, power over the sands, and the Glory of invincibility -------------------------
