I was never a person who got spoiled by my parents, or even had any money to be spoiled. I wore old clothes my grandmother gave me and was made fun of by basically everyone I came in contact with.

We lived in a house that had mold growing in the corners of every room and bugs were everywhere. My brother even got a roach stuck in his ear so he had to the doctor to get it removed even though we didn't have money to pay for the medical bill.

I was still kind of in that situation except most of my family is gone. My mom died of cancer a little over two months ago, my grandma died after I turned 12, my dad left before I was even born, and my brother Landon is in the army. He's off being successful while I work 6 days a week trying to pay for my apartment. I haven't seen him since my moms funeral since he had to go right back into combat. I'm really missing him right now.

"Anna, you okay?" Hannah my best friend said, nudging me slightly bringing me out of my thoughts. I nodded my head and smiled at her to hide the fact I was reminiscing.

Hannah was the only one who didn't make fun of me back when I didn't have the prettiest clothes like all of the other kids. She sat with me when I had no one to sit with, she played with me at recess when no one would play with me. She has always been there and is the person who has been putting a smile on my face.

"Are you sure?" She asked again, leaning forward to get closer to me.

"Yeah I'm fine. I just really miss Landon." I explained.

She reached over and rubbed my shoulder sympathetically.

"How about we have a girls night tonight? I'll buy some take out and wine, then we can watch rom coms" She smiled at me and I couldn't help but smile back.

"What about Ryan?" I asked her. Ryan is Hannahs boyfriend.

"He's working tonight, and he'll be out most of the night." She said. "We will probably be up by the time he gets home because he called not long ago saying it's a busy night."

"That's very nice of him, seriously, but the couch is very much adequate for me." I said. One thing I hated was being a burden, even if she said I wasn't I knew I was.

"He doesn't mind. I told him you were feeling down in the dumps so just said that you could sleep in our room for tonight. Just accept his offer, please." She looks at me with puppy eyes.

I laugh and gave it quite easily. "Fine."

"Yay" She drew out.

"But," I say getting her attention. "As long as we can watch The Notebook"

"You got it" She laughed wrapping an arm around me to give me a slight hug until a customer walked up.

Later that night Hannah and I walked to her house together. She had a nice two story house her parents bought her, with a pool in the back and had a healthy relationship with her boyfriend. She had everything I didn't have, I was always jealous of it but I never told her that.

"So, are there any boys you like at all?" She asks as she brought out a few menus from places we could order from.

"You already know the answer to that" I told her, sitting my self on the chair by the bar.

"You'll find someone Anna. I know you will. It takes time to find your person" She says, trying to comfort me.

"I'm okay with being single. All I need is another person to worry about on top of everything else." I explain to her.

"Okay, okay, negative nancy. Now, pick what you want," she slides several menus to several places over to me. "I'm leaning towards Chinese but you pick and I'll get the wine" She then turned around and opened a cabinet to bring two bottles of rosé.

That night was filled with laughter but also crying because of all the rom coms we watched. The alcohol actually distracted me from all the shit going on right now. I actually could have a real laugh with my best friend with nothing really on my mind at the time.

But of course that night quickly came to an end and I was back at work with a terrible hangover.

Three little girls come into the store everyday to look at dogs and would giggle uncontrollably which didn't help my
headache at all. Even after I took ibuprofen.

Who's idea was it to get drunk a day before work? Totally wasn't mine.

It was mostly empty besides the little girls and a few other customers that were walking around the store, till a man walked in with a small teacup puppy in his arms.

"Hi, how are you?" He said and smiled at me.

"I'm good" I nodded. "Who's this little guy?" I asked and reached out to pet the small animal.

"This is Jack, I'm uh, giving him back to you guys the owner was basically neglecting him" He tells me, making me frown.

"Okay, we'll gladly take him." I said and reached out to hold him.

"Thank you, I wish I myself could keep him but I'm so busy and I'm never home"

"Was this your puppy?" I asked him.

"Oh no, he wasn't mine. He belonged to a friend of mine who is in a rough patch right now, he can't take care of any animals currently" He explained.

"Okay, well I'm glad you brought him back then. Thank you very much" I said.

I was a little sad he didn't have a home anymore but also glad he was out of that home.

"It's not a problem. Have a good day." He tells me.

"You too" I say as he turned around and walks out of the shop.

"I just finished cleaning the cages- who's this little guy?" Hannah awes down at the little puppy. Hannah also works with me and most of the time we are together.

"This is Jack, someone just returned him" I frowned and so did she.

"He's so cute, why was he returned?" She asked.

"He was neglected I guess" I shrugged, confused about the current situation that just happened. Why did he have return someone else's puppy?

"Aw, I'll take him back" She said smiling picking him up gently, then walked away talking to the small animal.
