CHAPTER 3

"i don't know what to wear" sadie huffs, throwing herself onto my bed dramatically, so that she faces the ceiling as her back sinks into my duvet

"you're being dramatic" i comment, not
tearing my attention away from my phone, "look in my closet if you want"

i reply to my dads text messages, assuring him i'm fine here on my own. the last thing i want is my dad hauling the whole family down here because he can't stop worrying

the slam of a door interrupts my thoughts, my head snapping up in the direction of the noise

"you have nothing either!" whines
the culprit of wardrobe slamming, "almost everything in here is dark, you hardly own any colour anymore!"

"so?" i ask cockily, shrugging my shoulders as i continue scrolling through my phone

"so-" she starts, snatching the phone out of my hands and silencing my protests, "what happened to the millie who decorated this room, hm?"

i observe the room around me,
most of it being decorated pink

"i just don't like pink anymore, is that a crime?"

sadie huffs impatiently, not getting the deep sentimental answer she wanted, "will you choose my outfit, please?"

i chuckle at her neediness, pulling out a pair of ripped black skinny jeans and managing to dig out a baby blue swing top left here from the year before. she seems pleased, and smiles at me gratefully before slipping the clothes over her pale skin

i straighten my frizzy curls, slap on some makeup and choose my outfit in a fraction of the time it take sadie to do the same

i guess i had forgotten how much of a perfectionist sadie was, how much she worries over everything. she spent more time stressing out over a strand of hair that escaped her hair style than i had spent worrying about almost anything the past year or so

i just kept it classic, my black doc martens, bunched up socks, a tight fitting skirt, a top that showed my cleavage, and of course, a flannel

the flannel kept me warm as we walked to the party, it wasn't far, about a seven minute walk across the beach and then through a couple of streets until we reached pembroke avenue

the boys arrived before us, seen as sadie faffed around to the point of them having to go alone

honestly, we almost forgot about them,
it was only when our phone started blowing
up with them asking us both why we weren't at the 'meeting spot' that we realised we would be a little later than planned
