"Don't forget Ivy. Promise me you won't forget."
"Dad I'm fairly certain I can remember to call and order the cake. I will do it. Don't you trust me?"
"Well, I do. It's just that last time you forgot and I almost lost my customer. Even my business sales dropped for two weeks. So Ivy, please remember."
My dad owns a small wedding company called Till Death. He opened it when I was 4 years old and since then he has been taking care of his store more than me. Sure, that is where all the money comes from but I can't even remember the last time we did some bonding together. I'm pretty sure it was seven or eighth months ago at the movies...with his boyfriend.
It's whatever.
My other dad has never been part of my life. My dads were married on 18th December, 1990. Twenty three years ago. No one supported their marriage, other than my present dad's sister. Aunt Lydia. She died 7 years after they were married, and that started the steep decrease in my fathers' love for each other.
"Ivy. I'm going now, okay?"
"Bye dad. Three tier red velvet, with cream cheese frosting and strawberries inside?"
He flashed me a thumbs up before he sat into his Corvette Stingray and drove away. Finally, I was home alone. I can do whatever I wanted.
On my way downstairs to the basement I grabbed a vanilla coke can, and a small tub of ice cream. I turned on the projector and turned on YouTube.
