I cut my eyes at my sister, both confused and irritated that she accepted Dan's warning but not mine. Dan sniggered at my look.
"Don't worry about her," Dan stretched and stood up. Matt and Milli were too interested in their games to notice that we started walking upstairs together. We held hands as we travelled up the stairs into my bedroom.
I immediately settled on my bed, my legs hanging off the side of the bed. Dan sat on the floor next to me, pulling his knees to his chest.
"You know furniture was made so you don't have to sit on the ground?" I questioned him. He agreed with a high pitched groan. I don't think that he knew that was a cue to sit somewhere other than the floor.
He rested his chin on my knee and rubbed my thigh slowly. I gave him some affection, rubbing his head with my fingertips.
"Why do you always sit on the floor?" I questioned again.
"I dunno," he answered. He climbed onto the bed with me. "I like to."
"Mhm..." I pulled out my phone and started scrolling and tapping around, Dan peering every now and then, but he mostly stared off into space with his chin resting on my shoulder.
"Hey hon..." he whispered, seemingly half asleep.
"Yep?" I didn't look away from my phone.
"Can I have kissy?" He asked. The word sounded so weird coming from his mouth. He usually doesn't say playful words like that. I leaned over and gave him a kiss on his cheek. He wrapped his arms around my sides, his hands meeting at my side. He seemed really cuddly that day. Usually, I would touch him, then he would touch me, but this time, he started it.
"You need anything?" I was a little worried that he was getting sick again.
"Hmm," was all he responded with. I couldn't tell if he was thinking about it or telling me yes. He doesn't really speak, but this was a bad time not to. He obviously wanted something from me.
"Heeey Mikey," Dan swayed me gently. His attitude reminded me of me when I'm bored. Not like him at all. He's also never called me Mikey. Ever. Not even in texting. I haven't even heard that name since I was thirteen.
"Yep?" I tried to act like I wasn't bothered. Not that I was uncomfortable, just concerned.
"I love you," he sang playfully at me. He literally had like two mood swings in one minute.
"I love you too," I replied in the same singsong voice.
"Hey, you're cute..." he told me. "You're really sweet."
"Thank you. You're mesmerizing." I complimented him back.
I turned off my phone and set it to my side, turning my attention to Dan. His red eyes pierced through me. I pat his head slowly, and he closed his eyes contently.
I kept playing with his hair for a while, and he didn't say anything, at all. It's one thing for him to be weirdly quiet, but then he speaks in a tone he normally doesn't, then becomes silent again. It was concerning.
"Are you tired or something?" I asked him again. He nodded. Again, that was weird because he wasn't acting like he usually did when he's tried. "Are you okay? You're acting weird," I told him. I saw him begin blush. He lifted his head to move position, I somehow knew to turn myself towards him so he could lay his head on my chest. We stayed that way for a while, my question going unanswered until he finally sighed.
"We just haven't seen each other in a while..." he whispered, almost inaudible. I ruffled his hair. "I've been so busy and stressed because of seeing family so much and being around so many people and jobs and stuff...it's nice seeing you, I'm just drained..." he rambled on in one breath. That explained why he had been a little too quiet that day. It was then I realized that he just wanted my attention. I kinda felt like a jerk for not noticing it sooner.
"Oh..." I let out a sigh of relief knowing that's why he was acting so strange.
"You mind if I give you another kiss?" I tapped his back. He lifted his head with a small smile. I swayed over and kissed him on the lips. I forgot how much I missed coming home from school with him to spend the night and kissing him before cuddling our way to sleep. I kinda wish school would come back quickly for that reason.
"Yeah, I've been getting migraines and stuff a lot lately because of staying up late to spend time with myself and worrying about the next day and work and reports and journal entries, I've also had to visit my therapist twice this month and I've been stressing over that, and walking around so much makes my legs ache," Dan babbled. I pat his head in return and he calmed down. "Enough about that stuff, how's your summer been so far?"
