I like normal days.
Me and my siblings had invited Dan over for the day, which, surprisingly, wasn't my idea. Milli, my little sister, asked me for his number, which I heavily questioned. She told me that she wanted to invite him to play some racing game I always forget the name to. Apparently Dan had a higher score than Milli for about six months at the time, and she didn't approve. She's been playing that game nonstop in her free time or when she's with us in the living room. She still hasn't beaten Dan's score though. I guess it was nice having him over because he hadn't seen each other in months or so since school let out for the summer. We've both been busy with summer internships and family.

Dan was sitting in front of me on the floor where he always sits, even though there's more than enough room on the couch for him to sit. Milli was sitting with her legs in the back of the couch, hanging her head upside down off the side with her controller hovering over her chin. Matt was sitting next to me, closely inspecting the racing game. I couldn't help but notice that the motorcycles in the game were oddly realistic. Owning one, I know most of the ins and outs or a motorcycle made in 2057. On a different planet. I'm just guessing you live on a different planet than me.

Neither of them spoke, unlike their usual routine. They normally bicker and exchange insults while playing the game, but they were deadly silent at that moment. All me and Matt could hear was joysticks and buttons clicking rapidly.
They were at the second lap with only one to go and they were on their last race. Oddly enough, they were both tied, so this race would determine who was the best at the game out of the two, Millie herself said it.
"Whoever wins this game gets the permanent title of 'the best of the two really good people at racing'." She told Dan before shaking his hand and starting the game.

With this gaming being a tiebreaker, and Milli being as competitive as she is, losing this game would be a catastrophic event for her. Dan was in first and Milli was in third, and the match was nearing an end.
This game was one of those games where you pick up power ups and use them to deter other players. Nikki got on of those and used it to get to second place, bare meters behind Dan. Matt leaned closer to the screen in anticipation, as if he couldn't see already.
The weird part about the race is that Dan avoided all power-ups, but still got first or second place in each race he played.
Milli grabbed another item, but Dan completely ignored the item boxed in front of him. We all could see he was really close to the finish line.

Milli used her final power up, targeting Dan's character to stop him from crossing the line.  I don't think I knew that Dan was really good at dodging things in video games until then. I say that because it dodged the the thing that Milli launches at him and finished the race with himself in first place.

A few moments of silence passed before Milli asked, "can I curse?"
"Go ahead," Matt confirmed.
"Goddamnit!" Milli shouted, throwing her controller onto the couch. Then, she sat up straight on the couch quickly and put her hand out to Dan. "Good game."
I was surprised how quickly her attitude changed within almost ten seconds.
"Nice," Matt commented sarcastically,"good job Daniel."
"Dan," Dan corrected Matt.
"Right..." Matt always forgets to call Dan by his preferred name.

Milli held out her hand to Dan from her spot on the couch. Dan nodded and shook Milli's hand, claiming his title as the best racer or whatever.
Dan leaned back, his head resting on my knees. His eyes were slightly baggy and red. His bags were normal, but his eyes seemed really dry.

"Hey..." he gave his usual warm smile. He would normally make a smart remark, but all I got was a greeting. I accepted, of course. I rubbed his forehead and brushed done hair out of his face.
"Get a room," Matthew interrupted while looking at his phone.
"Huh?" Milli was daydreaming, snapping out of her daze at Matt's comment. "Yeah, get a room," she agreed provokingly.
"Maybe we will," I retorted.
"Kiss," Milli teased us, poking my face.
"No," I told her.
"Do it," she commanded.
"Not now," Dan sighed patiently.
"Okay," Milli restarted her game and began playing another round against a computer.
