“Uh...yeah...sort of.” Laura responded as she dropped her arms to hug her baby brother to her. “But I don’t want to, I am totally not ready for this.”

“No one would ever be prepared for this responsibility.” Isaac pointed out. “But here we are, and we are going to be here to support you in this. Your dad had his friends to help guide him, now you have us.”

“I will be learning magic so that we won’t have to rely on Merlin.” Flip added and waved her hands. “So no need to pester your mom for some magical aid on your missions!”

“We’re all gonna support you in any way.” Steven adds and gives her a rather hard smack on the shoulder. “So no “no I need to do this myself, just stay back and be safe” whenever we try to help you. As Blinky says, we need to stick together.”

“I wanna help too!” Jimmy yells loudly. “I’m gonna punch stuff!”

“You can’t even write your full name properly, let alone hold a sword.” Laura laughs and her little brother pouted.

“I can too write my name! And I can fight too!”

“Maybe when you’re older, like when you’re ten.”

There was a loud rumbling noise and the kids quickly huddled together, Laura gripping the amulet tightly. The floor near them opened up and a large device came out.”

“Wait, isn’t that the thing your dad sticks his hand into to go into that ghost world?” Steven asks and Laura nods. “Why did it pop out of the ground?”

“Maybe the old troll ghosts want to talk to her?” Isaac suggested as his friend steps forward to the device.

“Agate, boost me.” Laura orders. The young troll hurries over and quickly lifts his friend up as she climbs onto the device.

“It’s gonna bite her arm off!” Jimmy screams, clinging to Steven and Flip.

“No I’m not! Papi has done this lots of times, he never had his hand bitten off!” Laura scolds as she turns back to the large glowing hole. “Please don’t bite my hand off I really like to live past twenty with all my limbs attached…”

Taking a deep breath, Laura quickly shoved her hand in, almost expecting to feel it get crushed or torn off. Instead, she feels the air turn cold and fell right to the floor with a loud thud. She groaned and sat up, rubbing her lower back as she tried to see where she was at. The whole room looked a lot like the Forge, but bathed in a soft blue light and the ceiling had what looked like glowing marks.

“Whoa...so this is the Void.” Laura murmurs and she admires her surroundings. So this was where her father’s soul was supposed to be?

“A child! What was he thinking?!” A deep and echoey voice shouted, startling Laura.

“A whole lot younger than him, she’s still a welp!” Another deep voice sneered angrily as soft glowing blue orbs flew around the startled girl.

“The poor thing probably can’t even hold the sword, she’ll fall right over!” Another voice cried out, this one sounding more female.

“Enough!” This voice shouted as one of the glowing blue orbs flew away from Laura and took the shape of an armored troll. “We must welcome our newest hunter. Yes she may be young, but there is a reason why her father chose her as his successor.”

“Wait, aren’t you...Kanjigar?” Laura asks as she steps towards the ghost.

“Indeed I am, young hunter. Welcome to the Void between worlds, it is an honor to have the child of one of our best hunters join the ranks.”

“Where’s my dad?” Laura asks, looking at the multiple glowing orbs at stopped circling her to fly back to their statues. “Isn’t he supposed to be here?”

“Laura, I’m right here.” Laura turned to see one of the orbs fly to her, circle her a few times before flying next to Kanjigar and take shape of a familiar face.

“Papi!” Laura cried out as she ran towards her father’s ghost and flung her arms around him. Much to her surprise and joy, he felt solid enough for her not to fall right through him. “Oh Papi, I missed you! Everyone misses you!”

“I know baby, I know.” Jim said softly as he hugged his daughter back. “I’m so sorry I had to go so soon.”

“You did what you had to do to save your family.” Kanjigar assured him. “Though I am rather concerned about the amulet’s choice of choosing a child again to be the new Trollhunter.”

“Merlin’s amulet rarely makes mistakes, but perhaps this champion was not mistakenly chosen this time.” A new female voice from one of the statues stated. “And I’m sure her father’s teachers will train her well, just as well as they trained her father.”

“My friends said they’ll help me.” Laura adds and looks up at her father. “But I don’t want them to get hurt, I don’t want that.”

“They won’t, Steven is trained by his mother to fight, Isaac learned to fight from his father and grandfather, Flip can hold her own with Steven's help, and Agate...well he can certainly defend himself." Jim assured her. "Trust in them Laura, protect them as they protect you."

"Laura! Laura!"

"Your mother calls you." Kanjigar said as he and Jim start to fade. "You must go back, return when you need our advice for anything. And keep my grandson safe young hunter."

"Keep your brother, your mother, keep your family safe Laura." Jim sighs as he clutches her hands. "Remember, even though I'm gone, I'll always be here with you."

"Papi, wait-"

The whole room fades back into the warm colors of the Forge, the Void disappearing.

"Laura!" Laura feels a strong set of arms wrap around her and lift her off the ground.

"Grandma! I can't breathe!" Laura gasps. "Release! Mami!"

"Barbara you're going to crush her!" Walt yells as Barbara releases her granddaughter. "Child are you alright?"

"Aside from nearly being hugged to death by my grandmother? I'm perfectly fine!" Laura groans as her mother, uncles and friends surround her. "I...I was in the Void."

"The Void! And so soon too!" Blinky gasps. "You saw your father in there?"

"Yeah I did, he's okay in there."

"The amulet chose correctly then!" Draal cheered loudly. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have some trolls to beat the rock out of for claiming that the amulet made a mistake this time in choosing a new Trollhunter."

"Seriously? Trolls are ready doubting me?" Laura asks with a frown. "Geez, nice to know that."

"Old Draal has been getting into fist fights with a bunch a' old trolls spewing that nonsense since everyone heard the news, his metal hand actually got broken the other day when he ripped it off to beat someone over the head with it." Notenrique commented as he jumped off Claire's shoulder to land on Laura's. "Old six eyes has already punished him three times for it, buuut he's gonna let this one slide."

"Well there goes my sleep." Laura mutters.

"Oh no, I told Blinky only to alert us when we absolutely need your help with any missions." Claire said sternly. "You are not going to abandon your education just to fight bad trolls, you will finish your education, and when you graduate from high school then you can fight them whenever you want."

"Fine, but if it's an absolute emergency I will need my assignments given to me if I miss class."
