“Seeing that Laura is absent, I take it she's not doing so well.” Blinky said to Claire as the remainder of the Trollhunters group gathered in his library. “I know you've heard this already, but I am so sorry she had to be the one chosen to take this mantel.”

“She's only twelve for Deya's sake Blinkous, no child should have to be burdened with this!” Strickler snapped and rubbed his forehead in a tired way. “Just a child, much younger than her father when he was chosen, she didn't deserve to be burdened with this.”

“How is she going to deal with this, she's barely going into middle school!” Toby exclaimed and slammed his fist on the table. “Her father already had a hard time having to juggle high school work and his duties, and it's going to be worst for Laura!”

“Merlin certainly made a mistake this time.” Draal growled in agreement. “Never in the history of trolls did we ever have a child warrior young as her, never! The youngest was about... possibly my age when I took part of the Killahead Bridge battle!”

“I just don't know what to do!” Claire groaned. “Ever since that night Laura has been refusing to do anything but lock herself in her room and hide under her covers, only to come out to use the bathroom. Jimmy is upset too, but he's been trying to coax his sister to come out and leaving her peanut butter and Nutella sandwiches with a glass of milk or water outside her door.”

“Hey, at least she came out for the funeral.” Toby said and took his friend's hand to give it a small squeeze. “Look whatever you need, Darcy and I will try to provide. Even Steve and Eli agreed to try and help you out as well, they both can help you out with the whole single parent thing.”

“No I can do this, if my mother-in-law was able to do it for the past ten years before she married Strickler, then so can I.” Claire said quickly waving her hand dismissively. “I can handle the financial stuff, I'm a well paid Spanish and Trollish teacher in the high school. But the one thing I'm just trying to do right now is pull Laura out of that dark place she's fallen into that I can't even pull her out of.”

“Kid just witnessed her father getting killed right in front of her, all while he's trying to protect her.” Notenrique said as he climbed onto the table and looked at Claire. “Look sis, even I'm no expert at fixing that sort of thing, and sometimes giving Laura space to try and sort things out is fine. But she has to try and get over this, but it won't be easy.”

“He is right, Laura has to get over this and move on, it's what her father would have wanted.” Blinky added.

“Stop Laura sad?” Aaarrggh asked. “How?”

“Perhaps…” Blinky tapped his chin in thought. “Perhaps a little word from her teachers from the other side should help.”

“Legacy...what is a legacy?” Laura mumbled to herself as she turned the amulet around in her hands.

This small object she held in her hand had changed her whole life the moment she picked it up, just as it had done to others before her. Merlin told her she was now part of a legacy of great Trollhunters and she had to uphold it and not fail at being his champion. On any normal day she would have scoffed and ignored what the old man had said, but she knew she couldn't fail at this task she now had. She knew she had to protect both the worlds of man and troll, just as her father had done before he perished.

“The amulet rarely ever makes mistakes in choosing a champion...but what if I'm that mistake?” Laura asked softly before tossing the amulet away. “Of all the places I came to hide in, why here?”

She was sitting on the dusty floor of the Forge, the one place filled with numerous memories of her and her father. She remembered how he told her when she was a baby she'd always watch him train from the arms of her mother or Blinky or Aaarrggh twirling that big silver sword she had always wanted to touch and try to raise with her own strength.
