Chapter 2

Lillian awoke in a sweat remembering that day eight years ago this day. Her room was small & bare. Lillian couldn't believe how much her life had changed. After living with her grandparents after her father died leaving her with nothing, it all went to her brother who was not at a proper age, so her fathers parents moved into the house with Edwin but would not take the responsibly for lillian & was taken to her mothers parents, after they died her aunt took her in but not being able to afford her, she agreed to become a servant to the house. But a week ago her brother had sent for her & today she leave to go see him, she had not seen him scene he was ten he is 18 now & a man, not knowing what to expect made her nervous.

Lillian arose grabbed her close for this day & went to bath.

'Lillian your escort sir Edwin sent is here.'

'Thank you Ann, you are a sweet cousin remind me again why it is you are not coming with me?'

'You did not ask deer cousin.'

'Is it too late to ask?'

'No! Let me go tell mama.'

Feeling a bit relived that her cousin was now going she rose from the bath & began to dry off.

There where rules set for her cousin Ann & Lillian to go by. They must be back in a week & Lillian is to take good care of her cousin.

'I have brought extra gowns cousin I know that your breast are more of size than mine but I'm sure they can squeeze.'

'Thank you cousin but I'm sure I won't be needing any gown I am only going back to Normington to see my brother.'

'But what if you meet a man you are 22 dear cousin you are becoming past your prime, & if you find a man of good wealth you would no longer have to be a servant. I hate having to order you about cousin lillian.'

Lillian nodded & sat the rest of the ride in quiet, when the land started to familiarize Lillian couldn't help but forget where to turn next.

In town they figured they would stop & ask for directions, to her old house there where new buildings & homes Lillian was confused the driver told the ladies to meet him on the other court side so he may turn around while they get directions.

'I shall get out & do it on my own Ann, it won't look right you in that pretty dress asking where my brother lives.'

'We shall get out together.'

'As you wish my lady' Lillian said jumping out but loosing foot & slamming into a rock hard wall, but when she noticed she had not fallen because the rock wall had daughter her with its arms & brought her to his chest to catch her footing.

Looking up into the deep hazel eyes Lillian lost her speech, those eyes seemed so familiar.

His smell was intoxicating. Never before had she smelt a man so wonderful.

'You alright miss?'

'Y-Yes. Err s-sorry my lord'

'Hello..' Ann said waving her hand out the door the be helped.

Noticing the man still had a hold on her she pushed off him to help Ann out of the cart.

But before she could take her hand the stranger had it & was helping her down.

'Watch the step my lady don't need another pretty lady falling into my arms... On second thought.' He told Ann.

'Such Kind gentleman here in Normington'

'Just arriving are you? Well let me be the first to welcome you to Normington. Is there reason you have come to out quiet little town?'

'Yes actually we are a little lost we are here to see Sir Edwin DeBrook & do not know where to find his land.'

'Well it must be your lucky day for Edwin is a dearest friend & Neighbor he but lives right next to my land.'

'Roderick Berrington?' Lillian gasped out softly not meant to be heard.

'Yes that is I.' He looked down to get a better look at the beautiful woman in front of him, but she looked down to the gravel so fast he did not get a good enough look. 'Do i-? Have we-?'

'Well Lord Berrington was it?' Anne spoke.

'Yes Roderick Berrington'

'Well I am Anna Olivewood, & this my c-'

'Roderick!' A man walking up holding a child & walking hand & hand with a little boy. Approached. 'Roderick please help I'm afraid little Kristina has made a mess in her napkin & her mother tells me she is developing a rash.'

'Jonathan but where is my sister-in law? Why is she not with the children?'

'As you know she is very close to the birth of our third child & can not lift our daughter Kristina for she is a healthy baby & might hurt her mother so I am shopping with my dearest wife & have no idea to change Kristina.' Jonathan said noticing the two woman for the first time. 'I'm so sorry miss, I must look a fool.'

'Jonathan. This is mistress Anna & her servant.. I'm sorry I did not catch your name.' Roderick said to Lillian trying to bring her face up so he could see the beauty he saw when she first stumbled into him.

'My name?' Lillian questioned slightly looking up to see all eyes on her, even the children, but when she caught Roderick's eyes she could not speak could not breathe. Did he really not remember her, surely she did not look too different, of course she would have not realized Roderick was who he was at first if he did not say he lived next to her brother. He had grown at least six foot his shoulders & body looked toned, his chin chilled not to mention his facial hair. Ann had rugged her to get her to speak. 'S-sorry i-i we-we are trying to find our way to the DeBrook land.' Lillian said breaking contact with Roderick & looking to Jonathan.

'Ah yes!' Jonathan 'tis but next to our land. Just down that road the castle just before the forest.'

'Thank you my Lords' Lillian said & grabbed Ann's had to walk to the carriage.

Roderick was about to follow & demand her name when Jonathan grabbed his arm. 'Will you not help?'

'I shall. Come to my building.'

Roderick told his brother while watching the servant help Ann into the carriage then glancing back to see Roderick looking at her. He had never before cared to know the name of a servant, this servant was rude so why should he care? She knew his name before he had said it, his reputation wasn't known as far as Grayling's was it? He wanted to know why she acted so poorly, he should find reason to see her again, & with that thought in his head he picked up is Nephew & guided his brother to his building.
