"That single thought is enough. The impulse increases to a wish, the wish to a desire, the desire to an uncontrollable longing, and the longing (to the deep regret and mortification of the speaker, and in defiance of all consequences,) is indulged." - Edgar Allen Poe
Four years ago, Ori Hawthorne's parents passed away in a tragic car accident. Everything was left to herself and her brother. Shawn, who took custody of Ori and gained both his and her inheritance, blew it mindlessly within the first year. Since then, both children have done what they've had to in order to keep in tact their once luxurious lives.
Acting carelessly yet again, Shawn runs off with over a million dollars belonging to a drug lord. This particular drug lord, however, has just met Shawn's beautiful, witty, smart-mouthed little sister. Ever Kingsley sees Ori as far more compensation than $1M, having never wanted anything so badly in his life. Kingsley finds opportunity in his situation and impulsively takes Ori as ransom.
Soon after, a turn of events sends them both on an unexpected adventure, where the two find themselves making countless discoveries - including the profound, violently magnetic attraction that dark seems to have to light, and vice versa.
