james walked towards the spare room of his house, passing his mother (who was cleaning his school uniform because they had to catch the train in two days time) briefly. lacey frequently spent time at james' house to get away from her mum - and this just happened to be one of those times. as he reached the door of her room, he bought up a hand to knock on the door but paused as he heard muffled crying.

lacey clark never cried.

at least not in public.

even when her father passed, she didn't cry in front of people.

sure, she's had her weak moments.

but james has never been witness to lacey crying.

instead of knocking, james just let himself in to find the whole room filled with darkness - the only light coming from her phone, which illuminated her face beautifully but also outlined the tears streaming down it.

"lace?" james greeted, though it came out more as a question.

lacey quickly tried to wipe her face, taking some of her makeup with it, and despite the tears she smiled at the boy, who made his way towards lacey's bed.

"he didn't mean it, lace, he's just angry." james explained, capturing lacey in a hug as he stroked her hair.
