"We are immortal. We are not going to extinguish the vampire,"he continued, biting his lip. "We will live as long as we can."
He paused again.
"Vampire life is not as hectic as it seems. I don't want to impose that on another soul."
Jaehyun giggled.
"Don't worry, absolutely no one believes that your lives are hectic. Staying in a crypt for eternity drinking blood in a bag is not really the kind of life that you can dream of."
Jaehyun narrowed his eyebrows at the sad expression of Taeyong. He did not want to hurt him, but he was clumsy and he could hardly stop his words.
"Sorry" blew the wolf after a moment. "I didn't want to make you uncomfortable I-"
"You are a wolf, you don't care whether to be nice or not with a vampire".
Jaehyun watched Taeyong's wrist move slowly. His fingers delicately held the pen as he drew letters with perfect calligraphy.
"What, so you prefer that your specie disappear? It is against nature."
Taeyong licked his lips before smiling nervously.
"You speak like an animal made to reproduce. We are not animals, we do not need that."
Jaehyun smiled in turn, it was the first time he saw a vampire smile. And even if that smile was small, even if it concealed a discomfort it was none the less unforgettable. Taeyong had unveiled his fangs in a moment and Jaehyun had forgotten everything.
He closed his eyes and inhaled the smell of this vampire fully. He inhaled slowly, his ears clinging to the rain on the tiles and that of the feather scratching the paper. He did not know what he was doing here or why he was here. His senses were reveling in the moment and he felt terribly peaceful.
"Jaehyun, you're not going to let me do everything right ?"
The wolf opened an eye. He did not know if he had fallen asleep or if he had fainted for a second. He stood up breathing out of his lungs to try to regain his senses, forgetting the delicious smell that was around him.
Taeyong swallowed, waving his pen between his fingers.
"The easiest would be to make each our part and put them in common. We won't play riddles for hours. I write about my race and you on yours and I let you sleep."
Jaehyun stretched before yawning.
"We must exchange, share, that's the goal" blew the wolf. "They don't care to know that a lycan must sleep 10 hours per night to hunt well."
Taeyong looked down, picking up his handwriting.
"Apparently you're far from your ten hours..."
Jaehyun giggled, not noticing that the whispers around them suddenly came to a halt.
"No my fault, Johnny has this great game on his console and-"
The wolf stopped speaking, finally noticing the silence around him. He saw the immobile eyes of Taeyong planted on a point behind him.
Jaehyun exhaled, smelling he hated more than anything. He could have recognized the latter between a thousand as it provoked a powerful reaction in his bowels.
He saw the slim figure pass by him.
Doyoung was wearing the dark gray suit attributed to the third year. The silver shield representing the skull of a stag's head hung against his heart, attesting to his status as Emeritus. Three Emeritus were selected at each new school year by the principal. They were the brightest, most talented students and often came from the best families. They represented the students during the meetings between teachers and were required to ensure the rules and harmony of the different races. They had a role of model and sometimes advisor. Although all this is only in theory. The passing years, the Emeritus were today more than a status that offered many privileges.
Just like everywhere, the castes dominated and the gaps between the different races were still widening. The races were classified by rank in the collective imagination and everyone agreed that a demon was better than a metamorph and that anyone would always be better than a wizard. At the top, mystified, were the vampires. Their scarcity had made them both feared and hated. Vampires, considered elitist had always been set apart because they had mingled with humans, copying codes and adapting to their way of thinking. They had a taste for culture, art and unparalleled curiosity, which did not prevent them from despising any other creature they considered inferior.
Doyoung was the perfect example of the evolution of the Emeritus status: he had obtained his status thanks to his excellent grades but also thanks to the prestige that surrounded his family and his race. He belonged to one of the last families of vampires still attached to the high aristocracy of this world. His parents were powerful, influential and feared. If he had not been chosen, his family would have changed that anyway.
The tall black haired vampire stopped next to the table. His eyes caught those of Taeyong who lowered his head instinctively.
"Can I know what are you both doing ?"
Doyoung's voice was soft and firm. He stood straight with his lips ajar, waiting for an answer.
"We're working," Jaehyun growled, annoyed by the haughty attitude of this vampire.
Doyoung turned his head slightly, glancing at Jaehyun.
"The question wasn't for you, lycan" he said.
He leaned over to his fellow vampire who did not move, as if petrified.
"Glad to see you again, my dear cousin," he murmured. "Be careful not to stink the dog so quickly."
He smiled, lowering the level of his voice again.
"It would be unwelcome" he murmured.
Doyoung straightened up, putting his hands behind his back before turning back. He watched all the tables one by one, hailing with a simple nod these first-year students.
Jaehyun began to cough before beckoning to Taeyong who was still staring into space.
"The smell of this guy is unbearable," he said, trying to catch the vampire's gaze.
"A STENCH" added Johnny who had obviously heard what the Alpha had said.
"Hey, are you all right ?"
Taeyong shook his head, grabbing his notebook and books, which he poured into his bag.
"I- I have to go," he said panicked.
"But we've just started," said Jaehyun, straightening himself.
Taeyong did not answer, feeling tears begin to rise in his cheeks. To see Doyoung again after so many years made his stomach ache and he suddenly couldn't understand what he was doing, sitting quietly in front of his enemy.
