Chapter 4 - Perfume

Start from the beginning

Taeyong saw that several people were on the steps, close to this man who was to be the director. Taeyong recognized some of his teachers and his heart sank when he saw among them a figure he recognized immediately.

He had not seen his cousin for decades and yet he had no doubts. Doyoung had darker hair than he remembered, and he was wearing it long enough now. Wicks almost reached his eyes deep black.

The vampires always recognize each other, and no sooner had Taeyong laid eyes on Doyoung than Doyoung turned his head, planting his gaze in his through the crowd. He stared at him for a few moments, before turning his attention away, clutching his clasped hands.

"Hey ! It's your cousin, look, blew Ten pulling his friend's arm. It's weird, since you've been there we didn't meet him once... But he's not the discreet kind... He loves strutting in the corridors... You should go greet him"

"I do not think it's a good time," the vampire whispered, his nose still on his sleeve.

Ten shrugged, looking back at the director who was about to speak. Taeyong narrowed his eyes and saw two black horns standing on the man's forehead. He shook his head, persuaded not to have seen them a few seconds earlier.

"Mr Lee SooMan is a rare demon" whispered Ten, "it is said that it is the last of its kind."

Ten did not have time to finish his sentence as the man spoke to silence everyone in a split second.

"Children, I ask you to stay calm. The general alarm was triggered by mistake by one of our guards and we apologize for it."

The whispers started again and the director slammed his hands back to silence.

"However, this alarm is a guarantee of paramount security that should not be taken lightly. If one day this alarm was to be triggered again, I ask you all to gather all here without delay. Our guardians are doing their utmost to ensure our protection and never has an incident occurred at Divinity in the last three hundred years. We ask you to stay calm and kindly return to your rooms."

"Gardians ?" asked Taeyong, approaching the ear of his friend.

"The guardian spirits" answered the brunet with a frown, "didn't you read the Welcome Book or what?"

"You never gave me a Welcome Book," said the vampire, casting a worried glance at Ten.

"Thank you all for your attention, and I ask you not to leave the establishment until further notice, the time that the guardians meet and that all the security measures are operational again. Any exit will be penalized by an immediate expulsion of the establishment."

The hubbub intensified as everyone headed towards the dormitories.

Ten closed the door of the room with a key. He saw the frightened face of Taeyong.

"Don't be so worried, everything is fine, it was a false alarm," said the brown haired, looking up. "Nothing's gonna happen to us, this school is one of the most protected places in the world for creatures."

Taeyong sat curled up on his bed.

"But Ten, protected from what?"

The brunet sighed before sitting down on his roommate's bed.

"Protective spirits monitor the campus without interruption. They are stationed at the four cardinal points of the school and their watch never stops. They can sometimes be seen from outside at dusk. Fuzzy and static silhouettes. Some confuse them with gargoyles."

Taeyong bit his tongue. How come he ignored these things? Before integrating a school of creatures, he made sure to read a lot of books about the topic, and he had never read anything that mentioned these spirits.
