I walked in the doors of Herbert High School, the place I'd been dreading since the beginning of this Summer. So many things have changed over this summer. Not that you know what I was like before or even know what I'm like now. I asked a teacher and he directed me to the gym.
"Bradley Grant?" The gym teacher yelled out. "Is there a Bradley Grant here?"
"That's me." I replied and raised my hand. Her head whipped around and she had a questioning look on her face like she was confused about my name and face. "My parents were expecting a boy, but they got a girl instead." I had explained this to almost everyone I'd ever met. It was so annoying.
It was in this gym class that I met my best friend, Morgan White. She was like a mirror image of me, except for her long, straight brown hair. We instantly became like sisters, constantly at each other's houses.
Later that day Morgan and I had a class at an off-campus building, it was about a mile away so we took a bus. The two of us sat together and realized we were in the same two classes at Herbert Hall (the off-campus building)
After those classes we came back to the main building for two classes, I had math and biology.
When I walked into biology I saw Daniel Cantrin, one of the hottest guys from Banner - one of the middle schools that fed into the high school- and probably the hottest guy in our freshman class. I walked to the front of the room to see the seating chart, and me and Daniel were right next to each other. AHH!!
I sat down and immediately felt self conscious. Was I wearing the right clothes? Did I smell okay? What did my hair look like? Oh gosh, if I kept worrying like this he would probably think I was a freak.
"Hey Bradley! How was your summer?" Dan said, as if we'd been long time friends. I look over at him and down at my shirt where I was pulling at the hem, avoiding any sort of eye contact.
"It was great! How about yours?" I replied, trying not to look up.
"Pretty good! I think I texted you at some point this summer and you never answered."
"Oh sorry, I usually don't answer people if I don't know who it is..." I didn't know what I was saying, the words just falling out of my mouth. I had seen his text, I did know his number, and I had spent about two weeks trying to decide what to say before my cousin, Jillian, deleted it for me.
The next few weeks involved flirting, ignoring each other, teasing, and study dates... Lots of them...
