Monsters

When we were younger
We used to think that the monsters were under our beds
But as we grow older we realise that They're actually inside of our heads
So how can we call for our parents to eradicate the lurking creature
When it courses through our veins rather than our imagination?
When it is hidden in our hearts rather than the wardrobe?
You see, our hearts are monsters
That's why our ribs are cages
And we are trapped in this prison
But this time we are alone
So we have to fight the monsters ourselves
But how can we when we're weak?
I guess we didn't really grow up after all
We're still our younger selves who cry and scream about the monsters that won't go away
They won't go away
And that's why we lose.
