I'm just sitting down in the library. Minding my own business. Studying for this test. At the table. With my friends. And... there he comes. Asking for help to solve an exercice. With his warm voice and a charming smile.
Noah.
I don't really know him. We've met briefly during first term, because back then, too, he needed help with homework. People really believe I know everything. Must be the glasses.
This time, however, he didn't ask me, he asked my friend, Will. Appearently they know each other.
You know, I never really cared about him at all. He had always been a stranger to me. Even after our encounter during first term. But two weeks ago, he sent me a friend request on facebook. Again, just so he could ask me a question. But this time, I couldn't help but notice he is actually attractive. He has a cute face and a lot of charm and he's funny. My crazy brain also couldn't help but think that maybe there might be a slight chance he likes me. Even just a little bit?
During those two weeks, I kept thinking about him, and I realised that we actually cross each other pretty often in the school halls, I just never noticed. So here I am today, sitting next to Will and across from my two other friends Rory and Iris, observing how my, now, crush is trying to understand how an electric circuit works.
I helped explaining a few things and after what seemed like 10 minutes, he left.
My heart was still pounding hard from feeling his presence so close to me. I didn't realise I actually had that much of a crush on him. When I managed to fully calm myself down, I decided to tell my friends about Noah.
'' Guys ''
They all look up to me.
'' Can I tell you something? I think I might have a crush on someone.. ''
Their eyes widen and Rory immediately yells '' WHO? ''
'' well, he was here just a few minutes ago.. ''
'' NOAH? '' They all say in unision.
'' care to keep your voices down? Might as well just take a mic so he'll hear too! '' I hope no one heard it. Thank God Noah isn't studying on this floor.
'' So, since when..? '', Iris asks.
'' I don't know exactly, maybe a few days? ''
'' Well he definitely thinks you're attractive, he didn't dare looking at you, the whole time he was here. He only glanced really quickly when you were talking.'', Rory says.
'' Really? I wish but I don't think so.. Let's go back to studying now, we're wasting too much time''
I get back to my text book and notice a pencil laying on top of it.
'' Noah forgot his pencil.. '', I blurt out.
Now, the three of them snap their heads towards me and smile mischievously.
'' You HAVE to go give it back to him! ''
Rory says. '' He's on the 5th floor''
'' uh nah, I'll pass on making a fool of myself, thanks''
'' What? C'mon you need to do this. Take some risks! It'll pay off''
Shit.
'' What got into me when I decided to tell you guys about him'', I say slapping my forehead.
'' Dude, just go already, Prince charming's waiting!'', Will says.
'' Don't you mean Cinderella? He's the one who lost his pencil ''
'' GO!!! '' they all motion for me to leave.
'' Okay fine! I'll go, jeez''
I take the pencil and walk to the elevator. When I get to the 5th floor, I realise I'm actually going to have to look for him in a room that's packed with students and books.
I make my way through the tables but don't spot anyone who looks like him. Ugh this is too annoying, I'm way too bad at spotting people. I walk back, take the elevator down and walk to my table.
'' I couldn't find him, guys. I guess he'll just have to come back to get it''
Rory looks at me with disbelief: '' I bet you didn't even try! ''
'' I did but there are too many people out there! ''
'' Come on!! You can't be serious ''
'' okay, you know what, I'll just text him and tell him. ''
'' you have his number?'' Iris asks, leaving her mouth wide open.
'' No, just on facebook''
I unlock my phone and decide to just keep it simple.

Your pencil' s still here
After a few seconds he replies:

'' He said he'll come by later to take it back'', I say to the 3 pair of eyes that are staring at me.
'' okay, then we need to come up with a plan! What will you say to him? '' Rory says, way too excited for her own good.
'' What do you mean? I'll just give it back to him''
'' Ugh girl, you need to make some moves! Just ask him a question so you can get to know each other or-''
''Rory, I appreciate you trying to help me but you seem to forget we have a test coming up. It' s the very reason we're all in the library. I don't want to fail because I'm focusing on other things, stupid things''
'' She's right, let's just study for now, she'll have plenty of time to make moves after the test. '' Will says.
We all go back to studying. I'm still thinking about him though. Noah. His smile. God.
I cringe at the thought of me becoming one of those girls that are obsessed with their crush and go back to studying.
After a few hours of electric circuits, Noah cuts in:
'' Hi again. I have another question for you guys, if you don't mind''
'' Sure, go ahead'', Will says
He asks about an exercice and Will explains it to him. I decide to still try and keep studying.
'' Can I get my pencil back? '' Noah asks me, when they're done.
I give it back to him. '' Thanks'', he says with a wink before going back to the fifth floor.
'' See! He's so into you! '', Iris says, smiling big.
'' Dude, it's just a wink. You're too desperate for signs. ''
That wink really did release butterflies in my stomach though.
