Chapter Two: The Panic

"THIS ISN'T FUNNY ANYMORE, CHAOS! COME BACK IN HERE!!" Topaz stuck her broad yellow head out of the Great Council's meeting place, yelling for Chaos to come back. The group of reptiles waited for a while until finally realizing that Chaos wasn't coming back. Everyone started hissing at each other, and Mango was hanging off the roof, screaming the lyrics to Teenagers by My Chemical Romance.

"EVERYONE! SHUT YOUR MOUTHS BEFORE I SHUT THEM FOR YOU!" Ember spoke up, lashing her tail. "With Chaos gone, there will be imbalance. We all balance each other out, don't we?!" She swept the room with a glare that could kill a Black Mamba. "Topaz. Your district, Light, will have an imbalance. AND-" she sighed. "-the Darkness District was our source of all minerals and rocks-like gold, emerald and things like that. Without those minerals, the light is unable to make more technology."

"WHAT?!" The entire room yelped at the same time. "Are there any other Darkness District snakes?!" Topaz interjected, not really caring about the fact that Chaos was gone.

"We do not. He was the only one left... Which, come to think of it, what were we gonna do when Chaos died?" Bubbles stated. She did have a good point, which angered Topaz because Topaz hated it when someone else was right.

"Hmph. He would probably magically 'FiNd aNoThEr oNe'. He's a sneaky little untrustworthy thing, that's what." Topaz narrowed her eyes into slits and coiled her tail around herself.

"Okay, listen here, Topaz. Not EVERYTHING is about how much you hate Chaos! I don'ft even know why you guys are bringing that up! Right NOW we're focused on trying to get CHAOS back, NOT how to get ANOTHER Darkness snake!" Ember sighed, wishing she hadn't gone into politics.

"Hello, Representatives." A dark red snake slithered into the room, his eyes a bright yellow. "It is I, Corrupt, your supreme DarkFire snake." He held his head with gusto and pride, with a cold hatred beneath the sharp yellow eyes.

"Fredrick." Bubbles replied calmly, looking down at the snake-or, "Fredrick".

"AGH- YOU KNOW MY NAME IS NO LONGER FREDRICK!! IT'S CORRUPT, NOW!" Fredrick screeched, hissing and baring his shortish teeth. 

"No, it's Fredrick. I THOUGHT we banished you. Why are you here, you evil piece of-" Topaz was cut off by the hostile red noodle below her.

"I have information on your... friend's whereabouts." He slithered into the center of the room, looking defiantly at the council members. "He followed me-yes, me of all snakes-into the Unmapped Lands. That's right. Your fellow Representative abandoned you- and why? He told me you-" He pointed at Topaz with his tail. "-were leaving him to do all of the work and EVEN THEN would bully him at council meetings."

"W-What? That's NOT TRUE!" Topaz exclaimed, gasping a little. "I'm just trying to... um... PROTECT HIM! You know, make him grow a thicker skin."

"That's funny. He's put up with your CONSTANT bullying for YEARS." Fredrick shrugged. "I am here because I would like to replace Chaos in your council. I am quite capable of doing so."

"NO!" Mango exclaimed. He looked at Fredrick, his hood flaring. Bubbles and Ember slithered closer to the edges of their ledges, looking down at the red tree boa.

"SEE?! Even the dumb one thinks you shouldn't. We banished you. Begone, Fredrick. Don't ever come back here." Bubbles hissed.

"I AM NOT FREDRICK-" Fredrick was cut off by Mango flinging himself at him, hissing and preparing to spit the deadly venom that Earth District Snakes has. "AW! DRAGONFLY DUNG!" Mango's tail hit Fredrick in the face, and Fredrick slithered out cursing and writhing.

"That'll show him. HA!" Mango smiled, going back to screaming Get Down from Six The Musical. 

"Did Mango just- did he just do something- smart?!" Topaz gasped, her eyes widening. 

"Yep, I think he did." Ember sighed. "I can't believe it. That's insanity."

"Well, I guess we should keep discussing Cha-" Bubbles was cut off by the sound of yelling. A light blue snake busted through the entrance. 

"COUNCIL MEMBERS! I HAVE SOME IMPORTANT NEWS!!" The blue snake interjected, leaning against the rocky entrance.

"Um... I don't think you're part of the Council..." Ember looked at her with some disdain, some curiosity.

"No, it's okay! That's my twin sister, Sapphire!" Bubbles exclaimed, rushing down from her post to welcome her."

"Thank you, Bubbles. But this is very, very important. I have some information on Chaos's whereabouts. I was out harvesting the buckets we left out to collect rainwater and I saw Chaos going with Fredrick. They went into the deeply forested region of the Earth District, and then to Unmapped Lands. I think, if you send snakes to retrieve Chaos quickly, you will be able to find him." Sapphire collapsed onto the ground. "Thank you for listening to me."

"Really?! We need to send snakes now... But we can't go. We have a government to run." Ember thought of an idea. "Sapphire. Will you lead Jewel, Sun, Volcanic, Cinder and Vine to the Unmapped Lands to find Chaos? I fully trust you, and we need snakes out there FAST."

"Of course!" Sapphire beamed. "I'll gather them immediately so we can start packing!"

"Great. A bunch of amateurs going out to retrieve a COUNCIL MEMBER. What a GREAT idea." Topaz spat, rolling her eyes. 

"Really?! So you would like to go out and abandon your JOB so you can find the snake you hate the most?! And since WHEN do you call Chaos a COUNCIL MEMBER?! WOW! Today is CHOCK FULL OF SURPRISES!!" Ember hissed.

"Sh-Shut up." Topaz was blushing a little.
