To the wife of a soldier

You dirty little liar,

You cheap excuse of a friend,

You ripped my heart and lied,

Promising you'd stay until the end.

But the devil caught up with you,

And told you his sly plan,

And it included me,

Falling for a handsome man.

The handsome man was you,

And you tricked me with your charm,

Kissin me and twirlin me around,

Savin me from harm.

But then you willingly volunteered,

To take the dangerous risk,

And it broke my very heart and soul,

Knowing you were made for this.

You told me it was fine,

That you really had to leave,

For the sake of everyone,

Not just special me.

I thought that i would trust you,

Knew that you'd come back,

But it took longer than i expected,

To realize the facts.

You had gone and left for good,

Without meaning to at all,

Fighting as a soldier,

And then taking on the fall.

I stayed mad at you,

Cause it was the easiest thing for me,

But then i realized something more,

That you were completely free.

I remembered that you loved me,

Even across the seas,

Fighting for your country,

Then dying to save me.

I prayed that night to God,

To let you forgive me,

Because i never understood,

Exactly why you had to leave.

But saving this fair country,

And keeping my life free,

And reading on through history,

Finally made me see.

I understood and i forgave you,

For accidentally breaking a heart,

But giving yourself up for everybody else,

Was the brand new perfect start.

I took back all i said,

Bout you intentionally hurting me,

And then i knew it wasn't the devil,

But God who gave you to me.
