Myka's claws scraped across the smooth gray concrete floor, eyes burning as if someone has set a flame in them.

He threw his paw across his face and screwed his eyes shut, hoping it would ease the burning sensation.

"Ugh,..of course they do a stupid test on me...what's gonna do? Make me fly?!" Myka hissed, rubbing his paw over his watery eyes.

"Are you alright? It looks really bad!" Sorrel mewed in a worried tone, her outline suddenly coming into view.

"I'm fine...don't worry about it ok..?"
Myka mumbled as he moved his paw away from his eyes, looking down to see faint smears of blood on his white paw.

"Don't worry about it? Don't worry about it?! Myka, for the sake of the stars! You are going bind!" Sorrel hissed as her fur ruffled up in aggravation.

"Who said I was going blind?" Myka snapped back, looking up at Sorrel only to notice how fuzzy his vision was becoming, Sorrel's normally ivory white, red, and brown calico coat now just odd fuzzy blotches in his sight.

"Oh for the love of-! One, your pupils are round and turning pale! Second, that stupid look you're giving me! You're squinting, you can barely see me, admit it!" Sorrel mewed sharply at him.

"And?"

"And?! Listen, I would take your place and go blind but-!" Sorrel began before Myka cut her off.

"But it's better me then you!"

Myka sighed, relaxing his eyes and giving up on trying to see his sister. All he could see of her was a faint gray outline anyways, nothing more.

Even though he couldn't see anymore, it didn't take a genius to sense how annoyed Sorrel was by Myka interrupting her.

...........

.....It wouldn't be long until she to gets tested on...Myka was 6 months old (Which, according to Dane, was usually the age that they started experimenting on the animal,  if not sooner.) while Sorrel was only 4.

Logically, Myka shouldn't care. Sorrel wasn't even his real blood sister. She was actually his adopted sister, his mother found Sorrel alone in a empty ventilation shaft while she was hunting in an abandoned white fur den.

Sorrel was found with her two other siblings who sadly didn't make it. Died from the cold, his mother guessed.

His mother also guessed that
Sorrel's mother was taken by the ATU (Animals Testing Unit), so instead of finding an afternoon snack, she ended up getting a new kit.

Sorrel was too young to remember any of that though. All she knows is that Myka and Dapple are her siblings, Bella is her mother, and their father is out of the picture. Her life was basically a big lie, so Myka shouldn't care if she lives or dies.

But he did.

"But I would still take your place!" Sorrel suddenly hissed, derailing Myka's train of thought and yanking him back into the present, and their fight.

"Yeah, sure you would." Myka hissed, turning away, everything was...blank...no colors, no light, no shadows, just a faint outline of Sorrel and a blank, black land in his sight. 'ugh, this is going to be so much fun..' He thought to himself, walking away from Sorrel.

"Myka! Don't hit the wal-"

Sorrel's warning ended up being too late though, as Myka smacked his muzzle into the wall.

Myka jumped back, surprised by the sudden impact.

"Owww!" Myka yelped, scrunching up his throbbing muzzle as he heard the small thumping of Sorrel's paws running to him.

"Ah! Sorry for the late warning! Are you alright? I bet you could've heard you hit from the other side of the chamber!" She said as she pressed her nose against his muzzle. (Likely to check for any swelling)

"Will you calm your fur?" Myka hissed, pulling away from her. "I just bumped it."

To be perfectly honest, Myka was humiliated that he'd been blinded while his sister could still see.

He was useless now...

'I'm blind...' Myka thought bitterly before feeling a hot flash of anger run through him. 'What is that going to do for me?! I wouldn't even make it through basic training!..I-!...'

'I'm weak now...'

"Myka? Hellooooo? Are you alright?" Sorrel asked, snapping Myka out of his thoughts.

"W-What?" Myka mumbled, feeling Sorrel's worried gaze burning through him. "Stop giving me that look!" Myka snapped as his fur ruffled up, annoyed by her suddenly never ending pity.

"Myka, you can't even see me! How would you know I'm giving you a 'look?’”

"I can sense it! That's how!" Myka huffed, immediately sensing that his answer shocked Sorrel.

"’Sense it?’ Wait, wait! You can sense the kind of look I'm giving you? Is that even a thing?" She asked, her tone highlighting her confusion.

Myka froze, "Uhh...Maybe it's a blind thing?" Myka said, shrugging and sitting down, wrapping his tail around his paws.

As much as his sister's pure and caring nature annoyed Myka (No to mention treating him like a helpless kit now-), He was happy Sorrel was here with him. Most wouldn't have a companion with them after experiments, They would usually be stuck only to wander a crate alone until the white furs came back to experiment further.

"I wouldn't know.” Sorrel whispered, pacing back and forth, every step making a tiny little thud. She definitely wasn't light on her paws, that was for certain. Myka could sense stress coming off of her in waves, damn her empathetic ways, now Myka was in for a lecture.

"Myka," Sorrel suddenly said, stopping her restless pacing to look at Myka. "I don't want to leave your side, but...what if all that stupid experiment did was make you blind? Your senses are going to heighten when you lose your eyesight completely,...But what power were the white furs trying to go for..? Are they trying to understand what happens if one goes blind? Maybe it was just an experiment gone wr....."

Myka allowed himself to zone out as Sorrel began to rant to herself. She was smart for a kit, but sometimes she fell into restless, unending rants without realizing it.

His attention fell onto the loud sounds coming from outside of the chamber. Myka strained his ears and sniffed the air to try to figure out what was going on.

Ah. It was a fight. And judging by Sorrel's rant had suddenly died down, she'd noticed it too.

"...I really thought Vex would win..My studies add up to him winning, especially against Hugo."

"Well as one of us can clearly see, He didn't win. Keep in mind Hugo creates toxic air, Vex must've choked on it and passed out before he could use his water.” Myka mumbled, lifting his paw and scratching his ear.

Myka didn't know what the white furs were doing, or even what they were saying. They all spoke in some odd language Myka couldn't understand. Only Dane could understand them, and everytime Myka asked what they did and said, Dane would just shake his head and say it was nothing good.

Myka sniffed the air again and caught Vex's scent.

"Vex? What happened?" He asked

….

No answer….

"I don't think Vex is alright...." Sorrel mewed.

"What happened? Do you know?" Myka asked, jumping up and forcing his fur to lie flat.

"By the stars...VEX!”
