I looked at myself in the mirror. I wasn't satisfied with how I looked, but that was okay. It wasn't like anyone was really going to see me again. I pushed my glasses up and slipped out the back window. The dark alley opened up to the street ahead of me. The cold of the air nipped against my skin, goose bumps growing and my hair standing on edge. In front of me was a bridge. And not a small bridge like you'd jump for fun. It was more of a if you jumped then you're done kind of thing. But that was the idea, wasn't it? I boosted myself onto the ledge as tears silently streamed down my face. The noise of the cars passing by was drowned out by the whispers of the past that were buzzing in my ears.

Fat.

Dyke.

Slut.

Worthless.

Fag.

It was almost like everyone was standing behind me, pushing me to step forward. I only wanted one thing in this moment. I wanted everything to be over. I took one last breath and let myself fall. This was it. I imagined someone grabbing my arm just over the edge, not letting me go. But when I opened my eyes, it was real. Above me stood a girl. I couldn't really see what she looked like in the dark. When I was back on the safe side of the bridge I couldn't find my words to say anything. She didn't let go of my hand while she pulled me behind her. My head was hot and numb from buzzing whispers inside. Before I knew it we were at a house, I could only guess that she lived here. But it looked to nice for anyone to live in. It was as if it was straight out of a painting or a dream. Maybe both.

"The bathroom is down the hall, to the right. I'll let you clean yourself up. Just come find me when you're done."

I couldn't take my eyes off the floor to look at her, I was embarrassed. Embarrassed because she witnessed me at my weakest. Embarrassed because I didn't know her. Embarrassed because I don't know how else to feel right now. Embarrassed that I couldn't save myself like she just saved me. I let the scalding water run down my back, my mind empty.

I looked around trying to find where the girl with the deep, soothing voice went. The hall was laid neatly with décor, each door looked the same as the last. Just when I was starting to think I was lost, there was a single door that was cracked partially open. She sat at the end of a bed, writing in what looked like a journal. I hoped nothing on that page was about me, although I doubted that. I couldn't take my eyes off her. Her eyes connected with mine and I immediately looked to my hands that were anxiously twitching in front of me.

"You don't have to be shy. I'm Kenny," she spoke softly as she gently grabbed my arm and lead me to sit next to her. "You don't have to be ashamed, you know. Sometimes we just need a little saving and there's nothing wrong with that." I shook my head, eyes trained on my small feet.

"That makes me weak." I brought my focus back up to her. She was certainly the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen. She had eyes that were big and dark. Like a Hershey kiss. And they were gently trained on me.

"Weak is not being able to open the pickle jar and that's not even close to what I saw back there. Now are you gonna tell me your name?" One of her perfect eyebrows raised in curiosity.

"Oh yeah... I'm May." my head turned back to the floor but her hand cupped my chin and guided me to look at her. Her lips. They were big, but not too big. And they looked so soft. I almost just wanted to kiss her...

"Well May, tell me about you."

"Okay.." her hand went back to her lap. The absence of where it touched my skin almost felt cold. Not like a shiver type of  cold, but more of an empty kind of cold. "I'm 15, I play tennis, and I don't have any siblings."

"And what made you want to jump?"

"My house is a prison and I have a life sentence."

"Woowww," she laughed a little. It was a laugh that sounded more like music. "Wanna maybe elaborate A LOT more there, princess?"

"Haha, you're funny, but I don't open up very easily. Plus, I hardly know you. You could be a serial killer, for all I know."

"I promise you I'm not. Masterminded kidnapper? Oh yeah, but I'm no killer."

"Oh so we're kidnapping now?"

"Totally, it's all easy business here."

"And how does one kidnap another with such ease?"

"Well, I got you here without a fight, now didn't I?"

"I-" She really had me there. "That was good, that was good." The small smile on her face made the butterflies in my stomach flutter around just how they did when she called me princess before. She was almost irresistible.

"Are you hungry or anything?" Hungry? I guess I hadn't even thought about food..

I was kind of hungry.. but instead I shook my head. "What time is it?"

"Uhm..." she tapped open her watch, I could just hardly see the time over her arm. 11:53. "It's still kind of early."

"Kind of early?? What's early to you? Because almost midnight to me is pretty late."

"Well if it's early it means you'll stay a little longer. So I guess I'm hoping it'll be early for as long as I can say it is," she rubbed the back of her neck nervously, never looking away. I didn't know what to say, but I don't know if I was quite ready to go yet either.

"I'm sorry, Kenny, but I have to go home." Her eyes dropped my gaze and a small sadness flashed across her features.

"Okay.. but we're hanging out tomorrow. I just really want to see you again."

Good. Because I wanted to see you again too...
