Earth. air, dirt, water, life. Space. Vast, open, unknown. As far as we are aware the only Earth we have is ours. But it's poisoned and dying. The icecaps are melting, fires are starting, it's snowing in places where it isn't meant to snow, it stayed winter all the way into March and April. We donated billions of dollars to a burned down church but ignored all the garbage floating around in the ocean. So we are looking for a new frontier, a new place to call ours, stake our claim to, a clean slate. So instead of trying to fix what we have we look to space. It's unknown and different and so open and there must be another place for us there right? But instead of that why don't we donate our money to try to fix what we have by hiring workers to clean the oceans or stopping plastic production and using things that are endless in use, planting trees, using metal instead of plastic. It's simple, it's easy and it would work. We have 12 years to fix the problems we have caused and make our deathly ill earth thrive again. And we can do it, we can stand up and stop using plastic and start paying more attention to how what we do affects the planet. But it starts with you. And it'll end with all of us.
I've always thought about global warming as something that was irrelevant, close to a fantasy; but as I age I start to look around and I see it. I see trash littered on the side of the streets. When I went to Mora bay I saw thousands upon thousands of dead sand crabs and jellyfish, trash thrown carelessly on the sand, plastic bobbing in the water. I hear the news, I see the affects of it in the weather; it stayed winter and freezing all the way into March and April. It almost snowed in Bakersfield California. It did snow in Hawaii for the first time. Trees being cut down by the millions. Polar bears starving, icecaps that we're frozen for millions of years melting and falling into the ocean, broken. So what do we do about it is the question? Well, we post pictures about it, little videos and edits, and things like that; but then we turn around and we get McDonald's 1 use cup with their plastic straws and paper wraps and we throw them out our window or into a trashbin because recycling only matters when you're online.
And I will admit I'm just as bad as the next guy on matters with this, and I may sound hypocritical because I'm not perfect with it, but I'm trying now. I'm going to put forth a real effort to trying to help in anyways I am able.
And you can too. You don't have to go vegan or vegetarian, you can simply buy secondhand clothes, use metal straws instead of plastic, recycle, support organizations that plant trees and fight to protect the forests, so many little things that don't seem like much but if we all did it, it would change the overall fate of our world. Our earth.
