"Kayden, come and have breakfast okay." Eudora pleaded with her son to abandon his video games so he could have his breakfast. The school bus would arrive in fifteen minutes time and Kayden, who would never let anyone feed him, was a slow eater.

"I'm coming mummy. One more minute." He said. She stretched out her hand and lifted him off the floor, away from his plastic building blocks.

"Mummy, put me down. I'm a big boy. I can walk." He kicked and squirmed but she increased her pace and sat him on the high wooden chair before his plate.

Her eyes roamed the small sitting room. Somehow, he had managed to use his toys to replicate the Jurassic times on the floor.

'A visual thinker' she mused. 'Just like his father.'

She banished all thoughts of the man who sent her to hell and focused on picking up Kayden's toys. She bet down and picked the plastic toys off the dirty brown rug, going around the couch until she had secured all his toys in a bag.

She hurried to the table to find that Kayden was still on his first slice of buttered bread. She sighed, plopping into the chair beside him and placing her hands on the table.

"You don't want to be late, now do you?"

"I won't." He said, through a mouthful of food.

Her hands reached for his collar and she brought it down to shape. She knew better than to interfere with Kayden while he ate his meal. For a kid, he ate pretty neatly. That was why she could trust him to wear his uniform and not get it stained. Everyday, she saw more and more traits of the bastard that had fathered him in him.

"Okay, then eat quickly. I'll get your bag."

"I can get it mummy. Just see me eat." She smiled at him but she stood on her feet and grabbed his bag from the couch.  As soon as he was on his way to school, she would open the bakery and begin for the day.

Her hands swung out too wide and the bag sailed, sparing through the air until it landed on the floor beside Kayden. He kept eating, unruffled by her actions.

Sometimes, her son's behavior scared her. In his own little way, he carried too much of his father's attitude. She was sure that if someone knew Kayden, as well as his father, their behavior -rather than their similarly striking similar looks- would be a dead give away.

She picked up the bag and packed up his books. Her eyes caught on a pink slip. An information slip for parents. She hadn't noticed it last night.

"Kayden, why didn't you give me this?"

He stared at her briefly before munching on his bread and gulping down his orange juice.

"I told you not to keep things from me."

"I love you mummy." He said.

"I love you too K but it's not okay to keep things from mummy."

He sighed, placed his elbow on the table and placed his hand on his palm. "Sorry mummy."

"You don't mean it."

"I love you."

She was about to caution him but there was a think just outside the house. She watched him slide off the chair and picked up the bag. He zipped it short, slung it across his shoulder and hurried to her side of the table.

"I'm really sorry mummy. I won't do it again." He pecked her cheeks and then hurried to the door. She got on her feet and followed him to the bus. The bus driver smiled at her as she exchanged greetings with him while Kayden took his seat.

"Good bye my love. Have a great day." She said, waving him goodbye. He waved to her too and the bus roared off their quiet street.
