The Summer of 1999
It was summer in California. My family all went down to the water park with some of my kindergarten friends. Me, being three at the time didn't have any idea of what was about to become of my poor miserable life.
"Mom! Mom! Watch me slide down the slide!" I yelled as I slid down the slippery red slide splashing into the cool blue water drenching my pink floral bathing suit.
"Impressive." She said as she stared at her People Magazine.
I ran to the other side of the water park to meet up with my best friend at the time, Eloise.
Eloise always wore her ninja turtle bathing suit when we went to the park together.
"Hi Maisie!" Eloise yelled to me from her car window. Her goggles almost on her nose and curly red pigtails bouncing as she skipped towards me holding a yellow popsicle.
"Hi El!" I said, taking a like of her popsicle. "How are you?"
"Fine."
"Good, wanna play?"
"D...U...H" she said giggling.
We ran all around the park jumping in the pools and floating down the lazy river. It was all fine until it was time to go home. My mom was packing up the umbrella she brought and was picking up our empty juice boxes.
"Maise let's go!" She called to me.
I didn't want to go so instead I decided to run the opposite direction from my mother and hide behind a garbage can.
"Maisie I said lets go!" She called once more. "I can see you behind the gar age can. Come! Here!"
I was upset about going so I slowly walked towards my mom.
"But mom, can't we stay five more mi-" I was cut off by a sharp pain in my chest and an aching pain in my head. "Ow!" I screamed. It was the most painful thing I ever experienced, it then. Everything was black and all i could hear were the faint screams of the people in the park.
